Today will be different though. She's going to call everyone within the hour and everyone will be acceptedkoalacity wrote:She's only made afternoon calls twice this cycle that I'm aware of-the first was the very first wave of calls back in November. The other was a single afternoon call (after a wave of morning calls) to someone who had been waitlisted the prior two years and reapplied again-successfully -this year.KatyMarie wrote:It's only noon there!koalacity wrote:Welp, looks like no calls today.

Is the consensus that DLS at this point is a ding, or have there been WLs already going out? Didn't get a chance to call yesterday as I just noticed my DLS last night

It's almost certainly a ding since wait lists don't usually go out until the end of April. Condolences.Michigan1442 wrote:Is the consensus that DLS at this point is a ding, or have there been WLs already going out? Didn't get a chance to call yesterday as I just noticed my DLS last night

Reading this thread has become so depressing. We need to start hearing more good news.

Yeah, I was wondering this, too. Does anyone know if most admissions offices close for spring break? I would have thought that mid-late March is too pivotal and busy a time in the cycle for them to shut down...

Finals period is all next week. Spring break is the week after. Don't think they're closing anything down.bhs12 wrote:sherealcool wrote:Looking high and low for Stanford's spring break dates...can we expect decisions next week?

But breaks are a great time for admissions officers to travel which doesn't do us a lot of good.wealtheow wrote:most of us higher ed administrators don't get to enjoy the breaks, no. can't imagine stanford admissions is an exception.

haha, yeah. but thankfully, for most schools, this is committee time, so they're lucky if they get to leave the conference room for lunch, let alone travel.Sourrudedude wrote:But breaks are a great time for admissions officers to travel which doesn't do us a lot of good.wealtheow wrote:most of us higher ed administrators don't get to enjoy the breaks, no. can't imagine stanford admissions is an exception.

Students are on break from 3/22 to 3/30, but admissions officers most likely aren't. Last year, Spring Break ran from 3/23 to 3/31, but rejections went out on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week. (Not sure what happened on Tuesday 3/26, but no offers/dings were reported on LSN or TLS.)

Would that be considered a ding wave or does stanford ding consistently in such a fashion - do them as they come along?zsazsa wrote:Students are on break from 3/22 to 3/30, but admissions officers most likely aren't. Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
is there anything for the Sept-Oct-Nov still alives to fear from a big March ding wave? My general impression is that after a certain point they're committed to picking us off one by one until some undetermined point in April where they fix a wait list and, perhaps, fill up the last 4 or 5 spots with admits. This is just my holding pattern for the time being...January to deadline applicants should probably watch their backs for the next week or two judging by last year's LSN. The Stanford class is so small, any reported admits we get on TLS would be rare and precious gifts.

FWIW, on last year's LSN, of the 16 people rejected in the 2nd half of March:EquallyWrong wrote:is there anything for the Sept-Oct-Nov still alives to fear from a big March ding wave? In light of these numbers, I retract my previous position in favor of a general unease.barrelofmonkeys wrote:FWIW, on last year's LSN, of the 16 people rejected in the 2nd half of March:EquallyWrong wrote:is there anything for the Sept-Oct-Nov still alives to fear from a big March ding wave? ETA- It doesn't seem like there are big waves to speak of, people seem to be rejected pretty evenly. I guess these numbers show what dates are going to get the brunt of it at a particular time...in this case December. This year the rejections are coming steadily as well. It occurs to me that some of these people reporting rejections may be stragglers who don't use the status checkers and might have a slight snail mail delay. In terms of initial acceptances, last year they stopped at April 9/10. So in between now and that final round of FR acceptances/dings/WL there are really only these 2 early to mid november completes (which is what I'm looking at because I went complete 11/8 and am being selfish) who were 3/16 and 3/20 rejects...possibly by a slow mail service. We lost an early November person this week as well. So I'm revising my feeling of general unease in favor of brooding complacency. Good luck to everybody else until the big D-day. It sort of seem like steady chronological boom times with small revisionary echo booms until them.

Earlier people are run of the mill gifts and will not bestow the same superstitious good luck on those who shower them with congratulations as the rare and precious gifts coming from the late FR gauntlet.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I would expect the admissions committee to try to process as many applications (and acceptances) as possible over the next two weeks so that they can invite people to ASW (4/4 - 4/6).
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
