Has anyone sent in a LOCI yet? I'm sitting at about 6 months and seriously considering it.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Dean Deal seems to be a fan of LOCIs, based on her blog. However, it is possible that at this point, they've already made all of their straight acceptances and are just deciding between WL/dings for the rest of us, so a LOCI now may or may not make a difference. It certainly can't hurt, though!Constantine wrote:Has anyone sent in a LOCI yet? I'm sitting at about 6 months and seriously considering it.

Ya, I was contemplating sending one but right now it's at a time when it probably won't even be read before the straight admits are done. I'll have one ready to go for the WL, although Furd's waitlist seems like a tough spot to be.koalacity wrote:Dean Deal seems to be a fan of LOCIs, based on her blog. Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
What do you guys think about sending LOCI and additional essay? Like a diversity statement?
My personal statement was already about my diversity part, so I didn't really think about submitting
another one since I thought it was unnecessary. Later I found out from forums etc. that a diversity statement doesn't have to be
something about race/ethnicity/sexual orientation. But could be anything else that could show distinct perspective
of a candidate.
So if it would make any changes, I'd like to send one since I'm getting no response from Stanford.

I really wish there was some "precedent" for this late stage stuff from previous year threads.esperanto wrote:What do you guys think about sending LOCI and additional essay? Like a diversity statement?

I would say yes to the LOCI, no to the diversity statement. That's just my opinion, though. You can read Dean Deal's blog for more insight.Seoulless wrote:I really wish there was some "precedent" for this late stage stuff from previous year threads.esperanto wrote:What do you guys think about sending LOCI and additional essay? Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I sent one after Stanford became my top choice and I saw an earlier post mentioned that the dean liked LOCIs. I wrote it in mid Feb. Ironically I sent it just before the first wave of YLS dings. It was basically a "why Stanford." There are definitely other things I want to send in, but I think discretion is key here so I'm limiting myself to just that.Constantine wrote:Has anyone sent in a LOCI yet? I have no idea if it will help me at all. FWIW I knew a guy from undergrad who applied to SLS several (5?) years ago. IIR he told me that he sent a LOCI after a long wait saying basically I love Stanford and if I'm admitted I'll definitely go. He didn't get in. (Don't know his stats but he did get into HLS so... probably not bad)

Btw: I was a straight admit. Admitted in early April, during CLS ASW. But that was three years ago.

You sent 3 LOCIs all to Stanford while you were hanging out in limbo?! How long were they and what kinds of things did you say?sls3l wrote:I am a 3L. I sent 3 LOCIs.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I sent one a month: January; February; and a last ditch effort in March. One, on diversity; other two, on fit for SLS.
I suspect I was a middling applicant: low numbers and not a underrepresented minority.
Best of luck to all!

I think its LOCI time for me as well. I wonder if S will see an uptick in LOCIs from nervous TLSers reading this thread

I sent in a "Why Stanford" loci yesterday. My reasoning was that after four months of non-communication on both sides, being more active in the process a bit isn't likely to tip the scales against me. Fingers crossed!

Do you guys think "Why X?" is important at HYS? I just assumed that it was fairly obvious why HYS, and that it would be better to devote the space to combating weaknesses in the application.

I think its less important to be like "you're so great" but if you have something like "because only you have this program and only this area has these things" that might be useful to them. I think esp on the waitlist these things might be helpful.drawstring wrote:Do you guys think "Why X?" is important at HYS? Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Agreed. To clarify, mine wasn't just "Stanford is great" but more like "Stanford is a really good fit for my personality and what I want to do." I also strongly implied (without mentioning Harvard and Yale by name) why I would rather go to Stanford over the other two.love4life29 wrote:I think its less important to be like "you're so great" but if you have something like "because only you have this program and only this area has these things" that might be useful to them.
