There are only 151 members in the Class of 2016 FB group. Could this be indicative of the number of admits who will deposit?

A few of those 151 are current students that were trying to sublet apartments as well. Though, the FB group isn't an official one set up by Michigan - people had to search to find it.

I highly doubt that (unless you were joking, in which case disregard this response). There is a substantial list of fall starters who want to start in the summer but are unable. I'm quite certain they would shift those admitted students to summer start before even thinking about the WL.

FWIW, there are 55 of us in the Summer Start fb group and I know that at least 8-10 of those are 1, 2, & 3Ls trying to sublet their apartments.

This is pure speculation, but I imagine it might be just as easy to pull a WLer into the Summer Start, as most 0Ls that are planning to matriculate in the fall have probably already made plans to quit jobs/move, etc. I would think that a WLer would be more likely to just get up and go. . .

Looking at the waitlist thread from last year, some peeps definitely got in off the WL for summer start

Logically, it's not going to be as likely an outcome as a regular admit, but it really depends on the exact reason you got waitlisted. If you were a sure in but applied too late and they simply didn't have room, there's still a good chance they'll throw some money your way if you get off the WL. If you're a borderline candidate and your WLed simply because they're kind of iffy about you, don't expect too much money. Evaluate your own LSAT/GPA numbers and softs and think about why you might be WLed and then you might have a good idea about money. It's not unheard of. I've browsed several other threads that constantly show people get off the WL with money.

Ah, not for me at least. This is the first time since the beginning of March when I got the initial waitlist notification.

Yeah I'm between the median and 75th percentile for GPA and above the 75th for LSAT so here's to hoping that the january 30th submission is what they didn't like about my application and not my softs/statement

It's a closed group. Whoever is running the thing isn't accepting join requests.

Weird, it appears the administrator of the group left--I just became admin and accepted all pending requests.

Does anyone know anything about the waitlist deferral, more specifically what is a solid reason to ask for consideration for next year? Is this sort of a Z-list (a la Harvard undergrad), or simply just one more option?

It's listed under the FAQ and realize it's binding. How does this affect financial aid? I've searched through the threads but haven't found much recent, Michigan specific, stuff. Would retaking affect the amount of money they'd offer you next year?

I'm actually really curious too, because work is pressing really hard to have me stay.

I went this route last year and had my request granted. UM was my top choice and while debating my options (seeing as I was waitlisted), I was approached by an AUSA who offered me a year-long shadowing/mentorship opportunity--which was my reason for requesting the deferral.

As you already mentioned, the deferral is binding. After accepting the offer I inquired whether re-taking the LSAT before matriculation would influence my financial aid, and Financial Aid responded that they would be happy to reassess my merit-based aid if I did (I didn't). I think what it comes down to is that accepting the deferral offer eliminates any possibility of negotiating your merit-based aid--since you can't apply anywhere else that year--but they still determine your initial award no different than any other applicant. I can also tell you that accepting the deferral has no influence on how you are considered for need-based aid.

According to the FAQ page, Michigan anticipates 5 openings in their summer start class!

Well, i'm meeting with them this week and hopefully i can get some type of indication from them on Summer start. But i may also test the waters on doing a deferral seeing as i was just offered a new job yesterday too.
