Hey guys, sorry to break up the important discussion but I have a LOCI question and would like some thoughts.

I have not yet sent one in because I don't have any updates, but I will be graduating in two weeks and figure that's update worthy. But I'm concerned about timing - people are saying there will be a big wave by mid may and I don't want my letter to be too late. If I know for a fact I will be graduating w honors would it be weird to send in a letter before I actually graduate?

(Also pls don't quote as I will edit this in a little while). Thanks folks

Do we know what kind of odds we WLers with a JS1 coming have? I assume my odds aren't great. I'd sift through the tomes of TLS myself if I weren't in a country that seems to get an hour total of internet connection per day. Thanks! :)

Reposted because this was immediately lost in a deluge of idle chatter and baby animals. I don't judge.

Does anyone have anything to report about their WL -> JS1 interview? How did it go/questions asked/direct transcript and video recording to send me? ;)

2MNIF: I suppose you could send it right now, considering the JS2 wave is right around the corner. Just depends on how you spin / phrase it (so that it doesn't sound you're making a big deal out of it but just casually mention instead).

2Eichörnchen: Post-WL JS1 are extremely similar to those before WL + you get asked about your other options.

Sorry because I'm sure this must be in here somewhere, but when does the major post-WL-JS2 wave typically occur?

it's expected to be soon (their deposit date was may 1st so once the smoke settles from that they will draw from the WL to finalize their class)

best guess is ~2 weeks

From what I understand the Js1-WL odds are better than expected. Last years acceptances WL- Js1 was 90%+. However, this year they have given a lot more wl js1s at a quicker pace. Time will tell if those who they offered a wl-> js1 already are basically admitted or if they are planning to interview the entire WL.

This.

And I think they already interviewed (or invited to interview) approx. 400 people for 150 max spots. i actually think there could be as many as 200 spots available still, but that's just me pulling random numbers out of my ass and getting everyone's hopes up.

You mean 400 WL js1s for 200 withdraws?

...yes, you are definitely pulling those numbers out of your ass.

No, i mean the way i look at it: FB group has 500-510 people...and that number hasn't changed by more than 10 in the past few days/past week. so, isn't it quite possible that only 140-150 ppl haven't joined the page? Making that approx 650 of the 850 offers they usually make. Why does everyone think it's approx 700-750 offers that they've made?

hm...i had been focusing more on the total offers (approx 850) rather than the # of withdraws. Maybe I should focus on calculating the # of withdraws instead?

 haha

When he said 400 WL js1s I really doubted his math.

Biggest number you could maybe reach is 210 js1 invites based on the idea that our google doc represents about a 7th of the total waitlist.

+ (?)# of deferrals. people speculate ~80 people defer a year.

Oh, but for deferrals, ppl who deferred previously would be starting this fall, no?

So I guess we just have to wait and see.

If the number of deferrals is constant every year then I don't see why we include. the 80 deferrals from C/O 2014/5 will matriculate this year. boom, 100% yield rate, 80 fewer spots to fill.

Deferrals don't really make a difference since the number deferring in will roughly equal those deferring out.
