This sounds right to me. Beyond reporting, they are going to want to have balance in the class geographically from a pedagogical perspective. The thinking goes you get a better experience the more diverse perspectives you can bring to bear in class and on campus. That's one of the big selling points of the "national" law school. You'll meet people from all over the US and many different parts of the world. I know I would be real disappointed to show up on campus and see that everyone was from the east coast, for instance.

You mean all that time I spent living in Kansas might have actually been good for something? Cuz I'm sittin here as a white guy below both medians too (at least until I crush that June retake)

You must have monster softs. Mind if I inquire?

Err... I dunno. I was a ski bum for a year after graduating, and I've been living in Colorado doing more professional work for the last few years. So maybe they're looking for geographic diversity/diversity in backgrounds?

ETA: This is essentially outs me if folks in admissions hang out here, but I'd like to think I've said nice things so far.

Are you super rich? That's the only way you wouldn't get the same amount of aid as everyone else.

I am k-jd and have essentially no income and less than 500 bucks in the bank. My parents are retiring this year (just my dad, my mom stayed at home with the seven kids), but have amassed a sizable retirement nest egg (net worth) of roughly a million dollars. Financial aid officers at both H and S told me I could expect 0 aid. In this day and age 1 mil isnt going to last you forever. If my parents were 40 and could keep working then this would make sense to me. Then again, even if they were working age and had 10 million dollars, they wouldn't help me pay for one dime of law school.

These awards are based on relative need, not absolute need. Your parents, according to the logic of law schools, offer the possibility of a fall-back if everything goes south. Students who get more need aid have no such fall back.

It might not be fair since that doesn't help you pay for law school, but law schools have to base their decisions on something.

I was simply refuting your "super rich" comment. Neither I nor my elderly parents fit that description. Could they liquidate a third of their assets and pay for law school? Sure. But if they live for 30+ more years like we all hope they do, paying for my law school will have impoverished them.
(To say nothing of helping any of their other 6 kids or 20 grandkids. Which is why they dont help.)

I plan to peak around, talk to students, get a feel for things and some material for my js1. Any other tips / tricks ? Hopefully asw is over by then..

Uggghhh ASW is not over by then. Just can't imagine you are going to get a ton of help but maybe I'm wrong.

My thoughts are with everyone in Boston. These events are all unfolding way too close to home.

EEEK Boston is a mess. :(

Do you think it'd be better to wait until later in the week ?

Even without the events of the last few days, being a waitlisted student at an admitted students weekend is definitely faux pas. :|

+1 to this sentiment. And in light of everything going down in Boston I wouldn't want to visit early next week regardless.

All the interviews today are cancelled because the university is closed.

Soooo, all the interviews are cancelled... until further notice? Thought it just would have been the ones from last week, but mine today is cancelled as well. Per the HLS Skype account:

Applicants--please be advised that all interviews are cancelled due to University closure and the situation in the Boston/Cambridge area. We will be in touch with more information as soon as possible.

For those of you who still have interviews scheduled this week, I'm not sure what that means, but I'd try hanging out on Skype to see if this message remains the same when you get added.

That's just from Friday. They're conducting interviews now.
