Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
Me too I'm looking through past waitlist threads right now. In previous years, it seems like some people were admitted in the April 30-May 2 range off of SPWL. (Though, some SPWL applicants were also admitted in March-April, and that hasn't seemed to happen as much this year, which is kinda curious). Also, just another observation about this cycle, but it seems like most of the love has been for people way above both medians and URM's so far.

Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
I really wouldn't expect anything until next Friday the 10th. If people are mailing stuff on 5/1 admissions wants enough time to make sure all the deposits get to Georgetown, and then they need to start counting them. I equate law school decisions to boiling water. The water does not boil if you are staring at it and waiting for it; it boils when you are not looking/paying attention.

Sound advice! Now, to completely ignore it:jdmonkey wrote:I really wouldn't expect anything until next Friday the 10th. Judging by last year's forum, there was a small amount of movement around this time and a bit more later in the month. Haven't seen as many positive WL outcomes in this forum yet, but it's hard to know what to make of that.

Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
Anyone else just get the Georgetown email saying" preference to come to those who will come if admitted" then going on to say you can apply for need based aid, but merit scholarship is very limited and they do not expect to be able to give any funding. Then says let us know immediately if you are ready to come to Gtown?
I am optimistic about the wording, but I just don't know if I could bite the bullet and pay sticker at Georgetown.

I did, too. It sounds like reason for optimism, but sticker is certainly not ideal.Dmini7 wrote:Anyone else just get the Georgetown email saying" preference to come to those who will come if admitted" then going on to say you can apply for need based aid, but merit scholarship is very limited and they do not expect to be able to give any funding. Here is the language from my email:
As you know, this Wednesday was our first deposit deadline, so it is now crunch time for our Admissions Committee to work with our waiting list. Although we’re still sorting through responses, it looks like there will be openings in the class.
The Committee will be meeting this afternoon and through the weekend, and it is likely that they will be extending some offers. They are very interested in your candidacy, but would like to emphasize that their first preference is to offer a space to those who will come if admitted.
Just to give you a little information, if you are admitted you will, of course, be able to apply for and be evaluated for need-based aid. But, at this time, our merit-based funding is very limited and we don’t expect to be able to award merit scholarship funding.
Even if you have already been in touch with us, please respond to Alison Spada, our Director of JD Admissions, at lawwaitlist@law.georgetown.edu immediately to let us know if you are ready to come to Georgetown. We promise to get back to you on Monday, at the latest, with an update and a possible decision. Please note that if we are able to offer you a space, you will have a week to make a deposit.
I very much appreciate your patience in all of this and hope to be sending you good news sometime soon.
Edit: Preferred, not special preferred

Yeah, just got that myself. Any idea whether that message was sent to all PWLers? The wording—as you said—seems unusually positive, but I can't tell if that's just a selective reading on my part or a legit good sign.Dmini7 wrote:Anyone else just get the Georgetown email saying" preference to come to those who will come if admitted" then going on to say you can apply for need based aid, but merit scholarship is very limited and they do not expect to be able to give any funding. Although I have received 20 emails for Viagra and online gambling, I'd gladly switch emails

Given the debtload of GULC at sticker, online gambling may be the safer option.jdmonkey wrote:Although I have received 20 emails for Viagra and online gambling, I'd gladly switch emails

I'm on the general waitlist but haven't gotten an email since the one we all got a couple weeks ago. Would it be obnoxious to email admissions spontaneously and tell them I'll 100% definitely enroll with only need-based aid?

Me as well. Looks like they're being choosy. Although in my case, it may be because I haven't sent it a solid LOCI yet. I was going to wait off till Monday to send it, but since admissions is apparently meeting this weekend, it may be best to reaffirm my interest to admissions right away.jdmonkey wrote:Not sent to all PWLers. WDH, did you send in a LOCI or otherwise express firm interest in GULC after being wait listed?WDH wrote:I got it and I am on the preferred waitlist. Not the SPECIAL preferred waitlist though.

Yes, I sent in a LOCI about 2 weeks after being waitlisted, and then visited about a few weeks after that.atomist wrote:WDH, did you send in a LOCI or otherwise express firm interest in GULC after being wait listed?WDH wrote:I got it and I am on the preferred waitlist. Does anyone know if the status checker "USA" rule applies at this stage? My address was just reformatted and the country of citizenship posted (which it hadn't been before). I read that this was generally a good sign pre-waitlist, but I don't know if it's something they might be doing for many WL applicants as they review their apps or what.

+1 but I couldn't tell ya when it updated because I haven't bothered checking the status checker since being waitlisted. How bad does it look if I say I will attend, and then decide not to if my need based isn't enough for me to afford it?WDH wrote:Same.
