Sorry to change the subject but sine the Stanford thread is worrying about housing at UVA (strange...) when should we start worrying about housing at H? What's the consensus on dorms there? Anyone hear tales...?

No need to worry about housing until April (if you plan on dorming). Also, I've spoken to a few people about housing. I covered a few people from a few different halls and, for the most part, each one believed his/her building was the absolute best by a long shot.

I guess it's what you make of it. Also, Hastings rooms have (non-working) fireplaces, as well as bay windows

vman21 wrote:Understood. I think your analysis is right on, but perhaps you are underestimating your chances slightly, especially given that this year there are less super high #'s around. Wasn't there a huge decrease in scorers between 175-180 this year and last? I could easily be wrong -- this might not affect Yale at all, since their acceptance pool is so small. Yet I would not be surprised if this year they scooped up quite a few with super high #'s simply because there are not a lot of you out there.

I joked with my only real life friend who's applying T-14 this cycle about wishing I get used just for my numbers after he expressed some gratitude toward Berkeley for being holistic
Good luck to you too!

No need to worry if you're shooting for dorms - the order of choosing is a lottery.
I was leaning pretty hard toward North because I'm not exactly a fan of communal bathrooms, but I think I'm going to go with Gropius to knock down COL significantly. The Harvard Students Taking Questions thread has talked about the pros and cons of the different dorms if you want to check that out.

Checking in!

Very unlikely I'll make it to ASW as I'm living overseas and a $1200 investment in establishing the delightful nature of whole grain mustard and civilized behavior seems a bit exorbitant (though I'd probably pay the domestic flight price of ~$300 for said civilized induction) -- I'll count on those going to report how exalting it all is! Also never been to Cambridge and thus have no idea what the atmosphere is, but it sounds like Instagram is a blessing.

Those who *have* been, or will be going, would absolutely love to hear more about what makes it magic, and just general deets about the ASW (EDIT: once all the ASW awesomeness has happened obviously, aka in a month or two haha. Weirdly too-early request for da fail)

Did the east coast tour a couple of weeks ago, first New Haven then Cambridge. Then when out west to Palo Alto. All three are amazing in their own way. Yale is one building. Beautiful, gothic, self contained and within the confines of the school campus. Class rooms are modern and the library is a little like Michigan's? High ceiling, stained glass windows. Coffee shops like au bon pain are a few blocks walk away. For those thinking of JD/MBA the new business school going up is state of the art and not that far. The outside edge if you will of Harvard Law is on a busy 4 lane street and just a five minute walk from Harvard Square. Feels touristy and a little hectic. The Wasserstein building is classy modern and huge, a really well designed space with nice cafeterias , class rooms, and multi-purpose areas. The dorms are a little weathered and seemingly from a different era at least the outside view. Once you face away from the street and get inside the law campus it is 8 or so buildings and very nice. Harvard Business is about four miles away, its' own campus, maybe 10 separate buildings, and very classy. Stanford is wow. Mountains in the distance, orange trees, one gorgeous building after another. Lots of bikes. The Munger resistances are 5 star hotels. The new law building with its second story garden is beautiful. The town is far away, which is good and bad.

You don't. It took them four or five days to accept me.

Looks like I'm officially going to HLS, which is still a tad unbelievable. Unfortunately, I'm deferring a year and won't be in the Class of 2016 with you all. Is ASW worth attending this year if I'm deferring?

What about it in particular? Appearance, atmosphere, stuff to do?
A couple of Mr. Sabanist's good friends just moved up there, and I die a little every time they instagram a picture of some gorgeous building. I can't wait to see it myself.

There is an energy in Cambridge -- something about the collision of the environment, the buildings, the layout, the people, the attitudes ... just felt special to us -- a bit reminiscent of our time in Europe. We felt like Cambridge was a reflection of our culture and predilections as a family. So much going on. Everyone out walking, smiling, interacting. The intangibles just won us over. Doesn't hurt that we're hikers/skiers/four seasoners who adore history.

Jesus. I sound like a tourist brochure.

We toured 9 campuses/towns. Ithaca and Charlottesville were great, but Cambridge was the runaway favorite. I did not get the same vibe from Yale/New Haven, though admittedly our time was limited and our visits nothing more than a heuristic.

IIRC it has a specific activation code that gives you access to everything. I think you'll have to wait. :(

In case this sounds like BS, or in case anyone thinks this doesn't apply to a single K-JD... It is definitely all true. I was on the fence until this past Thursday when I visited, and I mailed my deposit almost as soon as I got home (and access to $500 lol).

I agree 100% that there's just something there (I guess the intersection of all the intangibles) that just makes the place awesome. Visit and be amazed.

Doubtful. Even if only half the admitted students have fb/joined the group, there are still over 200 spots left

Actually ... I think it's xxxx.jd16 for username and your corresponding password.
