I'm honestly kind of hoping to get rejected from HLS and YLS so I do not have to make any choices...

I'm about 90% sure I'll be at SLS next year, but I'm going to go to HLS's ASW to at least give them a chance :)

Decision I had to make too. ASW at SLS sold it for me though :D talk to everyone possible about everything you've ever wanted to know...most vague, useful advice I can give.

There is a google group, but I don't know about a facebook group. I would prefer a facebook group though.

Are we supposed to, you know, say hi or something on the google group? E-mail list etiquette is so different from facebook etiquette.

Why don't you start an "un-official" c/o 2016 FB group, and your google group action can be to send out the link!

I would as well. I can start an "unofficial" group unless someone is already on top of that.

Ha I'm the exact opposite - pretty set on HLS but keeping an open mind about SLS and will go visit!

Current student here

Re: the 1L elective question, you get a single elective Winter Quarter as a 1L. You can take most anything 2Ls and 3Ls can take, but there are a handful of exceptions (especially the writing courses). Evidence is the most popular choice by far, though Antitrust, Employment Discrimination, and whatever First Amendment class is being offered usually end up with a handful of 1Ls as well.

The only required class Spring Quarter is Fed Lit (the writing/oral advocacy one that starts as Legal Research and Writing and goes all year), so we'll get to choose upwards of three-ish electives. There are a handful of restricted classes again, but most everything is open.

That's a plus for Stanford—you take electives early on, and you can take most anything you want. You pay for that flexibility first quarter, with four big doctrinal classes, but come spring, it will have been worth it.

Good to know.

Off tangent, but do most 1Ls get Munger if they want it?

Prevailing wisdom is yes, since 1Ls have priority, but there are sometimes exceptions. If you list Escondido Village as well, you'll get placed there if Munger doesn't work out. Off-campus housing is outrageously expensive, and SLS guarantees that you'll receive at least some type of on-campus housing if you apply for everything you're eligible for.

Can someone send me the link to the Google group? My admit packet just arrived at home, but I won't have access to it until the weekend since I'm living at school.

Thanks a bunch!

You will not be able to get into the group w/o the student ID number in the packet - that being said, they have not yet approved my request to join so who knows

Does anybody here have any insights as to the turnaround we can expect with financial aid?

Any insight into the deferral request process? I've already seen SLS's brief online deferral statement; but any word on how open SLS is to granting two-year deferrals for non-TFA/Peace Corp programs (i.e. corporate rotational programs)?

Thanks,
Bert Russell
