tirakon wrote: I'm not sure I agree with this. SLS has an edge for clerkship placement, but I think when it comes to DC jobs Harvard's much larger network actually gives it a bigger advantage. Even adjusted for size, I think HLS dominates SLS at the prestigious DC firms, and in government policy jobs.
Can you back this up with a source? And how much of that is self selection, more HLS grads applying for DC firms than SLS grads?

Take, for example, the number of HLS and SLS graduates at Williams and Connolly or at Covington DC.

At both firms, HLS grads outnumber SLS grads far more than 3 to 1.

Those are just two I looked at offhand. I'd expect the numbers to be similar at other coveted DC firms.

Now that I reread your post, I realize I may have misread it. Are you only referring to Fed Gov jobs in DC, or listing it among others?

If the former, then I'm not sure, but even grads I know who went into Fed Gov jobs from Stanford have told me that Harvard places just as well. Although that's obviously just anecdotal.

I am generally skeptical of the Stanford argument that their network is much stronger because of it's smaller size. But that's just me.

Yeah, I am too. I'm just going back and forth between the two, and see good and bad in both. I just don't know which I actually want, or whether one school is considerably better than the other. Hmhmhmhm

And I was listing it among others.

How is everyone getting to campus?

I was going to BART down - I'm in the East Bay, and BART runs by SFO, before connecting to Caltrain in Milbrae. Caltrain has a Palo Alto stop, where you can hop on the Marguerite into campus.

At W&C this past summer, 7 SAs from HLS and 6 from SLS.

Yea, I seriously am 100% decided on SLS one week, and 100% decided on HLS the next. hopefully ASW will make the choice clearer. "Hmhmhmhm" is right!

Got my SLS financial aid package today... much better than the one from HLS - although that would not have been hard to beat :D

When did you submit MoM
I initially submitted on 3/3 - but I had some special circumstances that additional clarification that was done the week after. But then, in my stupidity, I didn't realize that I could send the need access to another school without standing it to SLS again, so I "re-submitted" it on 3/29.

Are you still waiting? Woulda thought they'd have broken out a new scholarship by now for you

this is so strange. I wonder how they are doing these calculations, such that some of us get more and others less from HLS

Have you looked at how long that takes? I'm trying to split my time between Stanford and Berkeley, and Google Maps is telling me the BART/Caltrain route will take up to 3 hours. :( I don't know what's worse: that or being stuck in a terrible traffic jam on 880.

To put it in precise, technical terms, taking BART/CalTrain from Berkeley to Stanford takes a long fucking time.

And I am so pumped for ASW, it's not even funny.

Checking in! I was admitted on Saturday and haven't yet received stuff in the mail. So jealous that folks are going to ASW! Clearly, I will need reports... possibly pictures.

Congrats to all the new admits. Sadly I think plane flights at this late date are going to be very expensive. Maybe a charter?

Who needs a flight to ASW? Just sign on the dotted line and show up in September!

Haha, thank God I'm coming from close by. Their reimbursement just barely covers my flight ticket.
