Woot! Got some scholly love from Northwestern (75k). Unless I get a last minute offer from NYU/CLS/Penn, my cycle is pretty much done. Time to start researching apartments in Chicago...

GW was my number 1 choice, but I'm going to need at least a little money to make it worth it.

I don't quite meet the 3.3 cutoff for this thread, but I figured 3.40/170 was close enough.

All apps were submitted in November, save Yale and Northwestern, which went in December. No Why X statements were written. Plenty of work experience is the only soft. Cornell and Texas were EA, all others RD. The only interview was an off-campus with Northwestern.


As disclaimer, I'm well aware that applying to the T6 was a waste of app fees, but I'd rather hear no than wonder. (Guess the T6 apps weren't a total waste!)

Sent in all my apps at the beginning of last week. In review/first read at Berkeley NYU and USC. Still complete/processing at UCLA, Michigan, Northwestern, Duke, and several others.

Edited 2/6/2013: Complete at all schools except Cornell. Accepted to UCLA on 2/1 with 25K per year. Accepted to Vanderbilt on 1/23 and waiting to hear from them about scholarship. Waitlisted at UVA on 1/29.

I'm now in at Duke, Michigan, USC, Emory, and Northwestern. I've been rejected at Berkeley and put on reserve at Columbia. I got 95K at Vanderbilt, 90K at Emory, and 60K at USC. No word on scholarship money yet from the others.

Still waiting on decisions from NYU, Penn, Chicago, Harvard, Stanford, and Georgetown. I had my alumni interview for Georgetown last week and I expect to hear from them and Penn within the next 2 weeks.

where are u leaning towards?

I really don't know. I've tried to look at all the employment data I can find and have come to the conclusion that there's just not much difference between Chicago, Penn, and UVA. UT is a step down, but it would be in-state tuition plus scholarship money, so the lack of expense may be worth the more limited employment opportunities.

I think that when all is said and done I'll get some money out of at least a couple of the other three, so that may well be what determines where I attend.

Also, I should have held off on my March update a few more days. NYU rejection came Friday.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the schools I got into but my cycle def. followed TLS wisdom that it really is all about the #s. I had great softs and my cycle came out exactly like a k-JD's would with the same #s. 5 yrs political/nonprofit WE (and I want to do PI), 4 excellent rec letters including a solid one from a former state AG I personally worked with, diversity statement about being a refugee, persecuted minority, living through war in another country (non-URM), and GPA addendum.

I'm going to head over to the "What are my chances" forum now and be that annoying person that sends everyone to lsn and tells them "no one cares about your softs!"

Damn, NU opened their legs for you with that scholly. Sorry, that's not typical money from NU. I have better numbers and only got 90k. Your WE and other softs probably got you some extra dough.

*blushing* Well it's combined need/merit so I figured it's because I work at a nonprofit and therefore have no money. But maybe that's true and the need aspect had nothing to do with it. Also, I embody the Northwestern Difference (TM). Have you decided on UVA or still thinking? Have you had a chance to visit the schools? Would love to hear your thoughts (I've only been to the NU ASW and I loved it).

What would be your top choice? I bet there'll be decent movement on the WLs this year if you're not happy with GULC, but either way you're in a pretty good position. GULC is a great school.

I'm not expecting to get in at Chi at all but honestly, any of the schools would be great. I am visiting Penn and UVA in a few days so hopefully one of those schools will show some love before GULC's deadline :/

Better than expected considering the TTT GPA. I am somewhat surprised I will likely be accepted into Emory, but without some serious merit aid it's not a realistic possibility, especially with part-time evening @ GSU allowing me to graduate debt free.
