Awesome, thanks! I appreciate the spreadsheet.. at least makes me feel like I'm not the only one suffering through this?

Does sending a LOCI make that big of a difference at this point?

Speculation:

I think the general consensus on here is that the LOCI that makes a difference is one that has significant information to relay (promotion at work, prestigious award, 4.0 GPA this semester). Not saying that a detailed and genuine LOCI without those things won't have any effect, but a "big" difference? I doubt it.

Think the consensus here is that you could send it if you want, but you could also piss them off if you bug them too much. But I dont see what repercussions pissing whoever receives the emails off could have.

I agree. I'm holding off on sending one, because if I do, I won't have anything left to send in the event that I'm WL'ed.

I think I'm doing the same...

This is kind of second-hand, but a current 1L told me that while she was held the admissions office told her that they didn't really want additional LORs. In her case, she was thinking about having her supervisor write a letter explaining all the wonderful work she did to be promoted and the admissions office said they didn't care who the information came from, they just wanted to know the nature of her promotion.

jbagelboy wrote:Does Harvard Law consider legacy at all in a positive light? Many law schools asked "did you have relatives who attended this university" but I don't think harvard did. I have quite a bit of it and I didn't mention it anywhere in my application. I actually lived for a few months after I was born in Cambridge while my parents were grad students there. I could put it into an LOCI, but with diversity being the rage these days it might just make me off-putting and borderline antithetical to the process.

Not really antithetical. Just convince them that your connection to harvars is stronger than most because of your family ties. Legacies contribute to school diversity, just as minority students and students with strong religious ties do.

not fully convinced they dislike letters of recommendation. at worst, they throw it away or ignore it. saying something is not necessary is pretty careful language and they obviously had a reason for not saying, dont send them we wont look at them.

Stop. Think. Multiple people have told you from personal experience and from JS' blog posts that LOR are not recommended. Relieving your own anxiety will not have a positive effect on your admissions process. Unless your LOR is directly from Barack Obama himself, saying that Harvard would be absolutely insane not to admit you and that he will not resume his presidential duties until they do so, really reevaluate your stance here.

I'm not trying to pile on, but there are very few specific things that JS said about those in hold status. One of those things is that additional LORs are not necessary. I think she softened the language from the hold post of the previous dean, which said something to the effect that the application was complete with the LORs already received. Nevertheless, someone who goes ahead and sends another LOR is demonstrating that they don't read closely and/or follow instructions. I don't think this is the message you want to send them when you are on hold.
