Should we start a spreadsheet for held applicants?

It depresses me that all of you have better stats than I do.

Joining the held party!

Video game talk: anyone play tf2 and want to teach me how to play degreaser-axtinguisher pyro properly? I'm noob.

Got held a couple weeks ago. Just sent the LOCI. 3.8 / 174.

Sinking feeling for some reason.

So now that the window for applications to be submitted has closed....what are we waiting for? Just to see how many people accept offers etc.....It just seems like now that they have the entire pool of applicants, they should be able to make a decision. Any thoughts? Thanks

this is what I'm thinking too, but a lot of JS1s are booked for the next few weeks so I wouldn't expect any action here until they finish those interviews. then their applicant profile pool will be "complete" and they may trickle a few additional JS1s to the held candidates and waitlist/ding the rest of us in april

yeah thats a good point, I overlooked the fact that some JS1s are still out, but even still you would think it would be soon that they would know....I mean we are still looking at three outcomes: JS1, Waitlist, Reject etc....

Based on the thread from last year I think movement from the Hold pile only came at the beginning of March when people started to get JS1s...The long wait continues :(

Is the beginning of March too late to send an LOCI?

I'm sure lots and lots of late applicants are sitting at "complete" like me with no JS1 invite yet or even UR.

Held, 12/18 Complete.

168/UG GPA 4.0/Oxbridge grad degree with the equivalent of a 4.0

Is anyone dinged or waitlisted at this point, or do most applicants get a courtesy hold?

See http://harvard.lawschoolnumbers.com/applicants/1213
There have definitely been rejections, plus a few waitlists. I'm considering my hold to be a good thing for now.

Did anyone else's status checker just update to include a space for "tuition received?"

Edit: Nevermind, apparently doesn't mean anything.

I don't think harvard has Waitlisted anyone just yet. I think the yellow dots are people taking the hold as a waitlist.

Checking in. Held this afternoon.

172 / 4.04 non-URM JS0

Requested my Fall transcript be submitted to LSAC, which should actually boost my GPA to 4.05 (I know, I know... I'm lucky to be in a school which gives A+'s and I have done everything in my power to take advantage of that fact!).

Regarding LOCI. Apart from my fall grades, I don't have any substantial updates as of now. I've been nominated as a candidate to be named as one of my schools top 100 students (campus has ~30,000), which is significant; however, I won't know if I actually am named top 100 until early March. Should I earn that accomplishment I will use that as the opportunity to submit a LOCI. If I do not, however, should I send one despite the lack of additional accomplishments? I feel like a LOCI without a specific accomplishment will seem weak, but I worry that failing to make any contact could be seen as a sign of disinterest. Recommendations?

Held today. Completed on 12/6. Numbers are 3.6/175. Do some people who are held actually get admitted later? It said so in the email but I imagine that the held applicants are there in case the admitted students decide to go elsewhere... but how likely are admitted students to choose a school over Harvard? I'm still hopeful but am seeing the glass only quarter full.

vzapana said this on the main thread, and I think it answers the questions pretty well and backs it up with facts.

"JS said this on the blog:

Every year a significant portion of our admitted 1Ls will have received a hold notice at some point in the admissions process. In other words, being on hold is a positive, not a negative – it means you are still in the running.

--LinkRemoved-- - The post itself is much more positive in tone than the e-mail. I think that the number of once-held admitted students is not going to be five but more like in the low dozens. Still, this is something that is no longer in your hands. Just be happy you didn't get dinged, and send updates when they're important."

Thanks, vzapana!

So I'm browsing through last year's thread. They created this spreadsheet of numbers of people who were held and when:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... meEE#gid=0 . Somewhat interesting.

Also, it looks like the first hold pile JS1s went on March 7 last year. First JS/KB2s on April 18th. Disclaimer, that's just my view rapidly skimming through the thread.

Eh, I don't think you have to worry about seeming "disinterested." I mean, it is Harvard after all. So if you don't have anything substantial at all to discuss, I don't think you should feel obligated to write one.

Aside from that, my personal advice would be to draft a LOCI now and write it as if you've already been named top 100. That way you'll have it ready in early March and can submit it ASAP if you get it. And if you find that the LOCI is strong even without the distinction as the centerpiece, you can just edit that out and submit it anyway if you don't get it.
