i don't see how saying they are not necessary is even remotely close to saying they aren't welcome or, as you are suggesting, that they are AGAINST the rules

I'm not saying they're against the rules or that it will kill your chances. I have no way of knowing that.az21833 wrote:i don't see how saying they are not necessary is even remotely close to saying they aren't welcome or, as you are suggesting, that they are AGAINST the rules
But why would she bother mentioning that they are not necessary? Isn't the whole point of the post not to worry about what you have already sent in and that they just need more time to evaluate the application? The gist is that nothing is necessary. It's pretty clear that the point of mentioning the LORs is to discourage people from sending more.

It's clear that you're going to do it, regardless. Pray that these letters say something truly spectacular and different than the others you've already submitted.rehsalt wrote:It's pretty clear that the point of mentioning the LORs is to discourage people from sending more.

Re: Held @ Harvard 2013 style
Ultimately I don't think it'll have much of an effect either way.
If you don't get in and you do it, you'll look back and say what if I hadn't sent the letter; if you don't get in and you don't do it, you'll look back and say what if I had sent the letter.
I personally am not going to send in one, as it also seems to me as though the phrase is intended to discourage people from sending additional letters. If you're really worried,
just anonymously call and ask whether it's okay.
One thing I can say is this: in my opinion you should not do this just because it'll make you feel better now. Do it iff you think it will help your app.

Re: Held @ Harvard 2013 style
I'm just going to add one more thing. I think it is actually a good idea to send another LOR if it's in the form of an update, meaning that the recommender can attest to something you are currently involved in, not covered in your application, and describe how that relates to your law interests. But another LOR that is just about your character or ability is probably being discouraged.vzapana wrote: It's clear that you're going to do it, regardless. This is from the hold post of 2011:
At this point, your application has been thoroughly reviewed. We’ve got a crack team here, and at least two of us have read your application. So we have a pretty good sense of who you are at this point....But don’t feel the need to send something just to send it. Remember, what you send reflects on your judgment.

Re: Held @ Harvard 2013 style
i agree i just find it hard to believe they would ding someone over sending in a positive letter of recommendation. i think at worst it goes in the trash or is never read and a decision is made based off your numbers/interview as it always was. dont see the harm

Hey guys, maybe az will shoot him/herself in the foot with those LORs, earning a rejection and making it easier for the rest of us to get in!
I'm [half] kidding.

So, does getting a JS1 while on hold not put you back under review? I KB1ed yesterday and my checker is still showing my original hold date/status.

So since JS2's are coming out... is it safe to assume no JS1s today?

Wait...let's review. You got a JS1 yesterday or had your JS1 yesterday? Critical distinctions here.MacB wrote:So, does getting a JS1 while on hold not put you back under review? I KB1ed yesterday and my checker is still showing my original hold date/status.

Probably safe to assume. Looking at last year's hold thread, it looks like a good number (2 or more) of Hold->JS1s came out the first week of March.lak90 wrote:So since JS2's are coming out... is it safe to assume no JS1s today?

What a shame. I was really enjoying my slightly less neurotic month of no hope.helix23 wrote:Probably safe to assume. Relax, you are going to be one of the first and few to receive a JS1.broadstreet11 wrote:What a shame.
