I like SMU a lot, but I am still weighing all of my options. I'm going to let the cycle play out and make an educated decision when all of the cards are on the table.

Hot. Very hot. And humid. Summer begins in about mid-May (sometime earlier) and runs through October, with most days in late June / throughout July and August certain to be over 100. Winters are generally milder though.

Agreed, not a whole lot of rain either after May.

I don't think it's quite that humid (v.s. Houston), but definitely hot during the summer. Very mild winters (only snows on Super Bowl week).

humid but no rain, that is interesting, so I assumed you have to keep AC on at night?

It's not as humid as Houston, but I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible to be as humid as Houston. Houston is essentially a giant cloud of humidity.

It usually snows 2-4 time a winter, and we had that one a couple years where it was like 10 degrees out and just solid ice everywhere.

Haha yeah. Forget about during just the summer. That would be the case for most places that are south of the Mason-Dixon for most of the fall.

LOL. Your AC will run basically 24 hours a day from May through October.

The problem is that it never cools down at night. It's 105 during the day, and still 90 at midnight. It may hit 80 by 3:00AM or 4:00AM, but it's back into the 90's before noon.

Unless you can sleep in 90 degree humid heat, you assume correctly.

I have lived in both Dallas and DC and this is my take: Dallas summers are hotter, but it's a dry heat (idk where you're getting this humidity thing from haha) whereas DC there were days I felt like I couldn't breathe it was so humid haha on top of the heat. Love both cities though :)

Thanks, anyone has input about Boston?
Also it might sounds silly, is mosquito a problem in Dallas? I am mosquito magnet, can't handle them at all.

Mosquitos can be a problem in the evenings, but honestly I have lived in the country and by lakes and never found them terribly aggravating.

I too am am going to be waiting until I hear back from all my schools to decide.

It can go either way, and change from extreme to extreme in the area from day to day.

That sums it up nicely. As the saying goes, if you live in Texas and don't like the weather, just wait a day because it will change.

It's not as swampy as Houston, but it can get very sultry and it can be like living in a blast furnace at times.

And the Mosquitos can become an issue, I'm sure everyone heard about the West Nile epidemic last summer. Supposedly though the city is going to be more prepared this time around and start fighting it a little early.

The main issue with the West Nile thing was that it never got really cold last winter. Like, I don't think it ever got below freezing. So it didn't kill off the mosquitos like it normally does. Usually they are there, but not too bad.

Got my money yesterday $$$ 90,000 (which seems to be my magic number from anything not top 20).

I might go visit just to see, but I'm thinking no right now...

I've lived in South Carolina, Dallas, and Houston and I've visited DC several times in the summer. The humidity in DC is closer to Houston than Dallas. After living in Houston and South Carolina I wouldn't even consider Dallas humid. But yes, as everyone has said, it gets hot as hell during the summers.

At this point, Emory has offered the same $$, so I would take the higher ranking. GW offerend 60,000, but I am not sure about DC (I dont want to be locked into Govt work...) We will see, I've received 4 offers and am still waiting on 7 schools. Ugh.
