Jobs in law were farther and fewer between in 2011 than they were in 2010. The 2012 stats will be worse than 2011. More than likely, 2013 will be worse than 2012's. thaslife.

The legal market is currently in a recession, however other schools' employment numbers have not fallen as badly as Brooklyn's numbers. So the recession cannot be the only cause of the bad job statistics; even if the recession is a contributing factor, there must be additional cause(s).

Could have just been a weird batch of graduates - I really don't think it has anything to do with the school/education itself. More likely, the fewer jobs on the market are being filled by NYU, etc. graduates and Brooklyn's students are having a tougher time beating them out. I guess it depends on where else you've been accepted, but Brooklyn is still a great school.

I received 41k/yr and am still struggling to figure whether it'd be worth it. Regardless of money, it looks like you need to finish top 10% to stand a good chance of getting a decent job with a JD from BLS. Their employment numbers are pretty awful and NYC is insanely expensive.

That said I'm confident I'll do well wherever I go, but none of us have been to law school before, so who's to say you'll knock it out of the park?

Brooklyn had comparably impressive performance in the 2010 ABA statistics as well as placement in BigLaw. Obviously nowhere close to Columbia and NYU; however much better than other NYC schools. The class of 2011 took a significant hit in employment, with an overall rate even lower than St. John's (which is supposed to be an inferior school compared to BLS). A further debilitation in the class of 2012 statistics may indicate that BLS is on the decline, with schools like Cardozo and steadily improving.

However this is all speculative; like NW said, it could have just been a bad batch of graduates.

Has anyone had any luck negotiating higher scholarships with BLS admissions?

If I remember correctly, in past years BLS will move on scholarship pretty easily. That being said, it hasn't even been a week since they released scholarship, might want to give it a little time.

30k scholly. Does anyone know which schools BLS consider to be equal for negotiations? I received a full ride from St. Johns, but I don't know if that is comparable.

I'm thinking of going to Skadden just to check out the firm. I'm already going to ASD on 3/13, so will decide after that if I'll be doing both.

To all those who are nervous about going into review in January and not hearing yet:

In review 11/09/2012
Accepted 2/21/2013

Also, from what I gather I should receive schol. info (if applicable) in a week or two?

Also, if anyone is a Part Time admitted student and would indicate schol. info that would be greatly appreciated.

In Part Time, with the Leslie Scholarship for 22,500/year. Renewable for all years if I stay in top 80%.

If you don't mind, I'd like to know what your numbers were for admission into the part time program with that scholarship. Have yet to hear back. Been in review since 1/4.

Did anyone have any success negotiating their scholarship? Did you contact the financial aid office or your admissions counselor?

"we do not negotiate with terrorists"

Obviously I'm paraphrasing, but was their response with regards to scholarship negotiation.
