Also in review. My undergrad degree is from WVU and I live in Morgantown, so if you have questions, fire away.

Went under review 11/30. My status date changed to 12/5 today, but still says under review. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to get a decision now.

Re: WVU c/o 2016
I am a current undergrad at WVU about to graduate on Sunday. I will try and give you the most honest opinion of the school. It is great if all you want to do is a party see decent sports and have a good time. Morgantown is an honest to god shit hole. Do not go down by the rivers because they all smell like shit, literally poop. It is becoming increasingly dangerous with two stabbings downtown last weekend as well as a student beat up in one of the academic building over the weekend. I don't want to scare you off because it has only become this bad as of late and I'm sure the city is cracking down soon. It is a great little town with lots of nice people. The faculty up at the law school is very nice in my few encounters and they are currently expanding and renovating it. The university is going through renovations until around 2020. The Rec center is great but too small. There r several nice local gyms in town though. It is an ever expanding town with a good value school.nmlf16 wrote:What's it like to live and go to school there?patricksouthern wrote:Also in review. Edit: downtown living is like living in the NYC ghetto. Super expensive and terrible housing. There are several nice options for student housing like the domain, west run, and copper beach. These are all cheaper than living downtown. I grew up in Morgantown as well.

Re: WVU c/o 2016
I think some of this is a bit unfair. I don't LOVE Morgantown by any stretch (though I've lived here for eight years and am certainly ready to potentially move on), but I think this is a bit overly critical. I personally have NEVER found an offensive odor to the area, and I've walked on the rails-to-trails (even relatively close to a waste treatment plant) often. There's not a ton going on -- it is a small town and life certainly revolves around the university. Football games are social events, and the tailgating scene is strong. If you like sports, it's not a bad place to be -- people in West Virginia really care about their teams. It's not Alabama or LSU, but it's on that next rung down.Jredelman15 wrote:I am a current undergrad at WVU about to graduate on Sunday. I will try and give you the most honest opinion of the school. My biggest complaint is if you're not a big party-goer, there's just not a lot for you to do -- this is probably the thing that frustrates my wife and I the most (we're both 26 and mostly moved on from that lifestyle). If you like the outdoors, you'll enjoy the area -- lots of scenic areas, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, hunting, etc. are all relatively close by. There's even a ski resort about 40 minutes to the east in Maryland and plenty of others throughout West Virginia itself. Proximity to other stuff one thing WVU has going for it -- you're only an hour from a relatively large city (Pittsburgh) and within three hours of D.C.
Facilities, as the poster above noted, aren't bad and are getting better all the time. The law school is a mess right now because of the major renovation that is underway. From what I've seen, it's going to look quite nice when all is said and done. The student rec center is excellent, if often overcrowded. What the poster said about housing is true -- downtown is a wreck and overpriced, but there are plenty of apartment complexes/townhome areas that are a short drive from the law school and much more modern.
The people I know who have attended law school at WVU or are currently there have generally positive things to say, and my interactions with the admissions staff have all been great. Very nice, helpful people.

No clue, but hopefully I should be able to tell you quickly -- I live literally five minutes from the school, so I'd imagine I'll get my letter in the mail quite soon.nmlf16 wrote:Does anyone know if they send scholly info with the acceptance packet?

would anyone who has been accepted be willing to share their numbers? I am just trying to get a feel whether I should be optimistic about my chances or not, I have 3.2 GPA and 161 LSAT

Re: WVU c/o 2016
As all of you from WV know, almost every lawyer here went to WVU, so I was peer pressured into applying there. I was accepted on 12/10. I live in Huntington, and I still haven't gotten my letter yet.
OnTheRise: I'm pretty sure you should be confident about WVU accepting you with some $$. They sent around an email here at MU saying that if you have 160+ and 3.3 you'll get a free ride at instate tuition.

Received my packet today as well... offered 97.5k over 3 years too. This makes WVU very attractive.

Got my letter in the mail a couple days ago. I received the Bloom scholarship, which is essentially a full ride. Lots of other interesting options out there, but it's nice to know I also have this one as well. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

In today via status checker. Anyone know how long it typically takes for the packet to arrive?

Re: WVU c/o 2016
Just got my packet in the mail and I must say I am pretty disappointed with the scholarship offered, Only 39K over 3 years. So, unless this cycle takes a massive turn for the worse I will not be attending WVU in the fall.
