Was strongly considering this school considering the amount of money they gave and nice campus but the new rank of 76 is pretty depresssing...

Anyone else get dinged for need-based scholarships? I got an email a little while ago telling me they are unable to offer me one. That means even if I got the Novak scholarship AND the fellowship I applied for, it would be difficult for Loyola to match Chicago-Kent. Tough call.

Heard back about a specialty scholarship. Loyola still isn't at the price of WI and UI-UC. I hope we can work something out because the school is high on my list.

I emailed Thursday afternoon and provided copies of scholarship offers more than double LUC's, but I haven't heard back yet. Based on the last few year's worth of forums on here, they don't seem to negotiate often, if at all.

I'm not too concerned about it. It is still perceived the same way in Chicago and has the same network. Also the employment statistics are not terribly different from schools ranked above it.mu13ski wrote:Thoughts on the drop in rankings?

Yup. Got shot down. I don't think they negotiate but it's worth a shot, right? Let me know how it goes for you.Po0329 wrote:Anyone try negotiating scholarships yet?
Now I'm just stuck between DePaul and Loyola, since DePaul offered a way larger scholarship amount.

I got shot down, too. Seems to follow trends from past years, too. It's really too bad. Loyola was a top choice, but I visited Kent (who gave me an awesome scholarship) and loved it. It seems like a no brainer: One of your top competitor's gives a significantly higher scholarship, you should come as close to matching it as possible. Guess not. Oh well.

What made you decide to go to Loyola (aside from their part-time program)? Thanks!arae13 wrote:1L here.

How's the social dynamic in the class? Do you generally spend time outside of class with your classmates or do friend groups tend to tilt toward people you've met in the city? Where do most people tend to live?arae13 wrote:1L here.

I'm a native Chicagoan and wanted to practice here so a school in the city was a must for me. I worked in law prior to going to law school and got the chance to see just how dedicated Loyola alums are to finding jobs for Loyola students. The network is fantastic. I'm also pursuing health law, so that was a substantial factor in my decision. I also felt that the faculty and staff, and even Dean Yellen were very up front with me when I visited and talked with them, especially about the state of the legal market. They didn't just BS me and tell me their school was the best, but actually showed me how Loyola was doing it's part to help students.chowiechow wrote:What made you decide to go to Loyola (aside from their part-time program)? I can tell you that I've met some of my best friends in my section and I talk with them every day and 90% of the time I'm hanging out people from school on the weekends doing fun things, not school work. There are a lot of opportunities to meet your sectionmates, especially at bar reviews and other events at school, so people tend to group up with others in their section and become good friends.nba101790 wrote:How's the social dynamic in the class? People live all over the city, but Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Roscoe Village and the Gold Coast are especially popular. Almost no one lives south of downtown, unless they commute from home. I live in Lincoln Park and have for the past 5 years. It's perfect because it's close to bars, restaurants, shops, gyms, etc., but far enough from the hustle of downtown. You get a nice, neighborhood-y feeling in LP and generally live among college students or young professionals/young families.

Yeah, that sounds like what an alumni also told me. She really spoke highly of Loyola's strong alumni network and that's such a big factor when we are trying to compete with students from UChicago and Northwestern Law.arae13 wrote:I'm a native Chicagoan and wanted to practice here so a school in the city was a must for me. Also shot down. It took less than 10 hours for them to respond though.

Just withdrew, hope the $25,000 merit award goes to somebody! (even though they don't seem to be up for negotiating) Good luck everyone!

Just withdrew, freeing up 10k/year. Looks like my Chicago options are down to one. I'm kind of bummed. Loyola was my top choice, but their scholarship offer and no negotiation policy made it way too expensive.
