LSU C/O 2016

Post by Toshiba31 » Fri Nov 23, 2012 7:42 pm

Did a forum search and wasn't able to find an existing thread.... Anyone else applying/ applied to LSU? I heard back rather quickly-

file complete 11/2/12
accepted 11/16/12
scholarship offer today 11/23/12

Needless to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly it all happened. Still waiting on a few other schools but almost 90% sure I'll be at LSU next August. Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

Hi!

I heard back quickly as well!
File Complete 11/2/12
Decision Rendered via Status Checker and Acceptance Email 11/16/12

LSU is my first choice and the first law school I have heard from! I will most likely be attending.

In the acceptance email, it says to look for the official acceptance package by mail in the coming weeks.
I am from Baton Rouge but still have not received it yet.
May I ask when you received the snail mail acceptance and was it sent to BR? And how you found out about scholarship info?

Thank you!

Hi! Congrats. Looks like the acceptance package was mailed on November 19- I just got it yesterday. The scholarship information and amount are included in the actual acceptance letter. And I live in Lafayette so I'd assume your letter should be arriving rather soon.

Thank you!

I hope to have a physical acceptance and the scholarship offer soon. I mean, it's nice to see the acceptance, but it's online. I need to have the physical letter!

Hopefully it'll be soon.

Congrats again!

Got my scholarship information today but it's not good. They call it a 50% scholarship (yay) but then mention that's only half of the out-of-state fee (boo) so in actuality it's only 1/4 of the total out-of-state tuition.

Aww. I'm sorry to hear that. At least you go something! I'm still waiting around to hear. I should hear something by the end of the week. I know that scholarship money for out of state residents isn't very high from state schools a lot of the time.

That's still not too bad. What were your numbers if you don't mind me asking? I would love to get that sort of scholly.

I saw on twitter another round of acceptances went out yesterday! Good luck again to all who've applied. How certain is everyone about LSU? Are there other schools that you guys are seriously considering?

LSU is definitely up there for me. Also going to send an app out to Houston and Tulane and maybe a few others.

You think so? I've got a 159/3.5. I was hoping for the out of state fees to be completely waived since I'm above median. State schools can be rough though. Waiving half of the out of state fee works out to a break of $8,694 a year. My costs will total over $80,000 in tuition alone for three years...doesn't sound like a good investment.

For some reason I misread that. That isn't a great bargain :( You're above both medians aren't you? That's really sad they won't at least waive out of state tuition.

Ya, the 50% thing is misleading. The question is...should I try to renegotiate it immediately or wait until the spring?

What other places did you apply to? I think it might be better to wait due to the drop in applications. You might be able to leverage your other scholarship offers and also LSU by that time might be trying desperately to fill the class. That's just my two cents. Maybe send an app to Loyola just for negotiation purposes?

I'm pretty sure their latest incoming class shrunk from 236 to about 200. Their median LSAT also dropped from 158 to 157. Hopefully that provides you some encouragement :)

Can anyone speak to the job prospects coming out of LSU? Law school transparency gives it a promising rating.

As long as you want to stay in Louisiana and have some ties there you should be fine. More than 80% of the class stays in Louisiana. Texas is the only other real viable shot, but Texas can have some notoriously insular markets if you don't have ties.

Got word of acceptance a week ago via e-mail. Pleasantly surprised at how quickly these decisions are being made. Good luck to everyone.

Yay! Congrats. Good to see our LSU thread getting some action :) I was also very surprised at how quickly the process has been. LSU is my number one choice and the first admit I've received. Still waiting on four others but I think my mind is pretty made up.

Anybody from baton rouge that could shed some light on the safety of the city? I've heard mixed reviews =X

I grew-up/lived in Baton Rouge until I went out-of-state for college.

Pretty safe city, all things considered. Crime is there, but in concentrated pockets (North Baton Rouge, mostly). Tigerland, where most of the undergrad bars are located, has become a bit sketchy. As far as the campus and surrounding area, though, I've always felt safe. Although it's not the city it was a decade ago, It's certainly not New Orleans/Memphis, either.

Hope that helps.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
