Occasionally my roommates and I will go on padmapper and look up rent prices in NYC/DC for shits and giggles. Def helps you feel better abt forfeiting dat prestige.Spikedude wrote:Thanks guys. I thought I made the right decision, but I needed some positive reinforcement to fully let go of dat T14 prestige.

In all fairness, the actual chance is probably a bit higher than this (closer to 20-25%) since 1. it doesn't include clerks, many of whom already have biglaw lined up, and 2. I'm sure that at least some people who have could have gone biglaw (or even who had an offer) chose to go somewhere else (non-nlj 250 firms and boutiques, pi, government, etc.)

Ditto to what Cuse and Hoos said. Seems like you made the right decision, just torturing yourself because you have free time this summerSpikedude wrote:I don't care for DC, I would preferably like to work in FL or NY. I already declined the offer but I just wanted some some thoughts that could help gauge my decision.

We probably lose 5% a year from transferring that would have gotten biglaw - We've had at least 4 people that I know of transfer out that will get biglaw. Of the ~196 we had at the start, say we lose ~6 that will get biglaw to transfers, and then we bring in 60 people from TTTT's as transfers that won't get biglaw. We'll have a class of 250 when we graduate. Considering the last class we have statistics on did ~ 27% firms 100+ or federal clerkships, and probably 20% of that class transferred in and probably the same handful of biglaw secure people transferred out, I'd say that our odds are definitely higher than 16%.
Going through OCI this next month so I guess my opinion on how we do biglaw wise will get a lot more developed.

This is probably a stupid question and I'm sure the answer exists somewhere, but does everyone have to send the school a final UG transcript or is that just for people who finished UG after they applied?

I think that if you are sure (really sure not just read it on TLS) that you want a particular market and you want big law both short and long term it can be worth it to chase those T14 placement scores. If you don't then it is a huge risk for less reward.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I was a little thrown by that too at first. NLJ 250 used to be the "go to" number for biglaw chances a few years ago, but I think the number most people use on TLS as a proxy for biglaw these days is LST's firms of 100+ combined with clerkships. So it's about 26% vs. 42%, based on the c/o 2012 numbers. I'll be very interested to see what my class (2013) looks like, and then 2014. I'm a little nervous about our class since its so big, but I think 2014 and beyond will look pretty solid. The smaller class sizes will help, and I've been hearing that last fall's OCI was a lot better than our OCI.Homelandsagreatshow wrote:16 percent? pardon?

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Even for what it purports to do, NLJ250 is not very reliable. There are entire firms inexplicably absent (including NYC firms with 50-100 SAs), and some of the firms that are represented are inaccurately reported (per people from those firms). There was quite a bit of discussion about it in the NLJ 250 thread from last year, and folks were really surprised at how bad the data was.hoos89 wrote:romothesavior wrote:I was a little thrown by that too at first. I wonder if they'll start reporting people at NLJ 350 now. That is all of the biggest firms down to 112 attorneys, so not too far off the 100+ measure. NLJ 250 goes down to 160.
And they don't take into account houses that have two television sets... and... other things of that nature.

After everyone gets here, I'm going to throw a party where I play "Get rid of the 30 bottles of liquor neither my wife nor I drink." You guys will all be invited.

3L who hasn't posted to this forum since summer prior to 1L - found my roommate here and that worked out AWESOME - anyway the random roommate we found on craigslist is leaving - this means we have a room (with it's own bathroom) available mid august. So any procrastinators or last minute admits who are looking for a great house with lazy 3Ls let me know. We're at Arsenal and Morganford on Tower Grove Park - walking distance to bars (including THE soccer bar in St. Louis - Amsterdam Tavern). Large back yard 3 bedroom, 3 and a half bathrooms. $567/month.
We are 1 girl and 1 guy - 2 cats
Anyway best of luck to all of you and I'll see you at the welcome events they bribe us with free booze to go to.
Additionally those that already moved to town - I don't work fridays and I enjoy day drinking if you're bored. AND US v. Panama Gold Cup final this Sunday Funday at 3pm Amsterdam Tavern
