It's nice when you don't have to go outside, and before it gets all nasty muddy from melt and disgusting yellow from deer/rabbits/kids peeing in it.

Well that part's an exaggeration. But it's always fun walking outside and seeing a circle of yellow snow with a little hole in the middle of it. Gee, I wonder what that came from.wannabelawstudent wrote:Geez, How many deer/rabbits/kids do you guys have?Crowing wrote:It's nice when you don't have to go outside, and before it gets all nasty muddy from melt and disgusting yellow from deer/rabbits/kids peeing in it.

Yep, it looks about that covered right in the heart of St. Louis, too. (I live near Forest Park.)
Snow is great until you have to drive in it. Which reminds me--a lot of people have been talking about whether they need a car when (or if) they go to WUSTL. That may work out if you live close to Metro stations, or otherwise don't mind being restricted to a handful of neighborhoods here. In my experience, a car is essential for getting around in St. Louis. There are a lot of places one may want to visit that are nowhere near a Metro stop, or that would take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour on the bus. St. Louis public transportation has a lot of room for improvement.
But I understand that kind of restriction may be feasible for a student. Just know that there is a lot more to the city than what can be reached via public transportation. Times like these--when we have consistent snow and ice during a day--make travel very difficult, since the city is so car-reliant. It sucks.

45 mins on a bus doesn't sound awful to me, but I'm used to public transit.

It takes me over an hour to get to campus by bus ATM. I would kill to get a metro stop at my university.shntn wrote:45 mins on a bus doesn't sound awful to me, but I'm used to public transit.

I completely agree with this. I was thinking the same thing when I saw people previously discussing this topic. While you can definitely survive without a car in St. Louis, having access to one, be it borrowed from a friend or a zip car or whatever, will allow you to experience a ton of other things that are not convenient to reach via public transportation.danielr wrote:Yep, it looks about that covered right in the heart of St. Louis, too. Ugh work is soul-crushing today.
Anyways, schollies will be out according to JL (does no one else correspond with her?) 'sometime in the next week.' They are definitely not in the office today but appear to be working from home.
