There really is no good reason to do it. You just have to pay more money and still graduate at the same time as everybody else.

What if money is not a factor (scholarship might extend to cover summer start)?

Well, I didn't do summer start, although I knew many people who did. The best thing is it gives you four more credits than everybody else, so you have a bit more slack getting the requirements in (but it's really not too difficult anyway). It may get you used to law school generally. But I would be surprised if there was any link between summer start and doing well in law school. I think the biggest disadvantage is that summer starters are working their asses off while other people are resting and relaxing (for some, this may be the last ever summer of relaxation). This is no small thing. I think one advantage may be having some friends when law school starts.

Agreed. I was given a promise of "expedited review," and 6 weeks later still haven't heard anything. Already paid one deposit and have another one coming up Friday. Anyone else in this predicament?

Ha, that was me that asked him the question that solicited that response.

I had forgotten I received that email. Now I am irritated all over again. Thanks. lol

Shot them a quick email saying I had other seat deposits coming up for schools I'm less interested in.
6 hours later, in with scholarship. Just send them a courteous email at the lawadmis address. Especially if they already promised you expedited they should be able to at least ding you if they can't accept you.

Congrats! And it is cool, I will likely just wait it out, at least for another week/next round of deposits. I have already deposited at Iowa, and am still considering WUSTL, so unless IU matches Iowa's full tuition, no stips scholly, it does not really matter. I would just like to have all the options on the table.

Congrats again though! Do you know if you are going to attend yet?[/quote]

Thank you! It'll be Btown or Wake Forest. Scholarships make my cost of attendance EXACTLY equal, so I'm visiting Wake tomorrow and Friday, then IU one day next week (I live in Indy, so it'll be an easy trip).

Iowa is 29, which is really close to IU's 25, so I'd say you've already got a good thing going! If they gave you a full ride, I'm sure IU won't ding you. Just shoot them an email! The admins were really nice about clearly super accommodating of my timeline.

I think they politely ask that we say yay or nay by April 16. That'll be a push for me though. I hope they're cool with me still tottering between two schools.

Is it bad form to accept their offer and then withdraw at a later date?

Yes, but ramifications will be minimal. Law schools keep people on waitlists until well into late summer... if they play that game they can't expect others not to.

You'd be silly to pass up a better fit for you over "bad form." With 3 years and thousands of dollars, law schools are asking a big investment from you for a life altering choice... do whats best for you. Deal with the fallout.

I was accepted at the start of the week and just wanted to post a "checking in" message here.

Some dates and numbers for reference:
Applied: March 27, 2013
Received: March 27, 2013
Complete: March 28, 2013
Decision, Accept: April 8, 2013 (generous scholarship offer included in acceptance email, and yes, I was definitely impressed by the turnaround time)
LSAT: 166
UGPA: N/A - attended an undergrad institution that did not grant grades
Non-traditional: 9 years post-undergrad work experience
Some ties to the Midwest.

There are about 15-20 colleges in the U.S. that use either Pass/Fail or Narrative Evaluations instead of grades. The college I attended used detailed narrative evaluations (a page full of the professor talking about what you did wrong and what you did right). It means my transcript is 20+ pages.
