Re: University of Alabama c/o 2016
That sounds like it is talking about students who are currently 1Ls at other schools who would like to transfer to UA for the spring of their 1L year, a little strange because I haven't really heard of that happening. It isn't for people who aren't in law school yet at least as I read it.2012Lsatscore wrote:I happened upon this piece of info in the admissions section of UA Law's website: "The University of Alabama School of Law considers transfer applications for students wanting to transfer to Alabama for the spring semester of their first year." The page basically just tells interested applicants to e-mail for more information. Can any 2Ls or 3Ls provide any info about this possibility? Is it only an option for exceptional students? If not, when do they start considering applicants? Should waitlisted applicants express an interest in being considered in their LOCI?

Was admitted via status checker a couple of days ago, so I was surprised to see a call come in from a Tuscaloosa number tonight. I was at dinner, but I answered anyway -- and I'm glad I did! I was offered a $26,000 per year scholarship! I'm floored, and this certainly will make Alabama one of my top choices. Really excited to head down to Tuscaloosa and check the campus out. Planning to take a trip next month.

Mega-splitter: 168/2.8. Had a decent GPA addendum, more than three years of full-time work experience and some strong letters of recommendation, but I'm still floored. Really didn't see this coming from a school like Alabama.TEXAS91 wrote:Congrats!!! That's awesome! Congratulations to you as well. I was pleasantly surprised to get such a significant offer from a top 30 school given my numbers. I was already considering Alabama, as I think I want to end up in the southeast. This obviously makes the possibility that much more enticing.nickb285 wrote:Congrats! I got the same offer, I was pretty surprised. I'm also an out of state splitter--3.17, 169, from Utah. Looks like they're trying to keep that LSAT median up. Alabama was sort of an afterthought, but that kind of money moves it pretty well up the list.patricksouthern wrote:Was admitted via status checker a couple of days ago, so I was surprised to see a call come in from a Tuscaloosa number tonight. Same offer as you guys. 166/3.61. Definitely making me think. I'm visiting in January.patricksouthern wrote:Congratulations to you as well. Yea those numbers sound about right for this years class. 3 sections with around 50 students each.. Tuition is correct also (out of state, not sure about in-state)2012Lsatscore wrote:So, while waiting to here back, I've been studying class profiles and tuition rates. Here's what I've found so far. Do you still have the information they gave you when you were a prospective student? I'd love to know the number of applicants from the c/o 2014 admission cycle. If you visited, I would imagine it was a separate page they gave you with your view book.

I'm thinking we won't hear anything today or even next week because of the holidays... Do you all think the first time we'll see any movement next will be after the new year? Suspense is killing me because I've been complete and in review foreverrrrr.

My gut is telling me that they could have stopped/seriously slowed the movement until the new wave of applications comes in after the Dec score release. They will probably send out a bunch of fee waivers the first week of Jan to see how many more applicants with high numbers they can attract and how many T-14 bound applicants withdraw. I just hope they start dipping into the 164-below group before April!

Gonna be visiting Tuscaloosa and Alabama Law in about a week and a half. What should I definitely go to/do/see/eat/experience? Never been to Tuscaloosa and I'll be staying one night in town before moving on to my next stop, so I'll have plenty of time to take in whatever there is to see. I appreciate any guidance you all might have.

Post pics! Also let us know about the experience in general? I'm scared of the South (although I live in Houston & love it!).

I think I PMed you some of my recommendations a while back, but for everyone else's reference in case you visit:patricksouthern wrote:Gonna be visiting Tuscaloosa and Alabama Law in about a week and a half. Food:
BBQ! Dreamland, Archibald's, Full Moon, and if you're fortunate enough to visit during football season, Big Bad Wolves' BBQ nachos are SO good.
Mexican: El Rincon is right next to campus and they have fantastic food and better margaritas
Iguana Grill is good too.
Burgers/Wings/etc: Mugshots, Buffalo Phil's (also right next to campus), Wings U.
Dessert: Gigi's cupcakes if you like 90% frosting to 10% cupcake, Sweets if you prefer 50/50. There are tons of frozen yogurt places too.
Bars: Egan's is my personal favorite dive right off campus (and the Alabama Shakes got their start there, so it might be worth dropping in for a show), Houndstooth if you're feeling fratty, and my roommate loves the Grey Lady. Innisfree is a local favorite too but I've never been.
And people wonder why I've gained weight while living here
As far as sightseeing, there's Bryant-Denny Stadium as a must. You might be able to schedule a tour.
Y'all feel free to PM if you have any questions or even want someone to meet up with! I'm always down to meet up for BBQ

Just got accepted via a phone call with the dean of admissions. She offered me a 20k/yr scholly with a top 40% stipulation to keep it.
3.67/165 non-URM out of state.
