I agree with Boris just as a matter of maximizing opportunities. At SMU you'd likely be competing against all of your classmates for the Texas market. At Emory, even if a lot of ppl wanted Texas, very few would be true competitors since not everyone would have ties. Emory also opens up more back-up options if Texas doesn't work out.

I guess this could all change if you're in at UT-Austin (not sure if you are or if you applied)

But between Emory and a more regional Texas school...I'd say Emory. Even T14 students have to hustle/network to break into markets that their schools aren't dominant in. In light of that I'd say go with the school that gives you the most options. You already have Texas ties and therefore a viable claim to the Texas market (certainly not a guarantee, but it's something)

NY Times article about an Atlanta law firm...
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/20/business/college-degree-required-by-increasing-number-of-companies.html?ref=business&_r=1&

Of all the metropolitan areas in the United States, Atlanta has had one of the largest inflows of college graduates in the last five years, according to an analysis of census data by William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution. In 2012, 39 percent of job postings for secretaries and administrative assistants in the Atlanta metro area requested a bachelor’s degree, up from 28 percent in 2007, according to Burning Glass.

“When you get 800 résumés for every job ad, you need to weed them out somehow,” said Suzanne Manzagol, executive recruiter at Cardinal Recruiting Group, which does headhunting for administrative positions at Busch, Slipakoff & Schuh and other firms in the Atlanta area.

Well fuck...

I wonder if we should be expecting more decisions this week. I'm ready to know my fate.

They're probably sending out decisions at the beginning of each week..unless they're doing it every other week. But they need to haul-ass if they're gonna get decisions out before March

They're letting everyone know before march? I applied nice and early.

I live in Atlanta and still haven't received anything from Emory, FWIW. This stagnant month of February is slowly killing me..

So I have not received anything in the mail but I just got an email "Events and Job Opportunities for Emory Law Admittees"

Did everyone get that or should I assume I'm in?

I'd say assume you're in..Unless someone at the office made a serious mistake.

FWIW I got the same email and I'm an admitted applicant

My email had this in the beginning:

Hi (insert my name) -

I hope you are doing well. Here is some information for our Emory Law admitted students about events over the next few weeks as well as a job opportunity for 1Ls. If you need anything, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to send me a note.

Did yours? If it did then I'd say assume you are in. There's a chance this could all be a grievous clerical error...but i doubt it.

I will be furious for you if it's an error. But I doubt it, especially if it had your name in the message! Email travels faster than mail :D

You could go after them for psychological damage :P Joking, of course.

No such email in my inbox. *checks spam* Nope. I think it's time to start making ritual sacrifices.

If I haven't heard anything from Emory yet would it be a waste of time to go for a visit?

I guess it would depend on:
1. How inconvenient would it be to visit? (in terms of money/time)
2. How likely/unlikely is it that you'll get in eventually?
3. Can you arrange a visit quickly enough so that you can be there before they make a decision? This is kind of unpredictable just because you have no idea of knowing whether they've reviewed/decided on your app or not yet :?

Yeah I feel like #3 is the reason why I won't go. I feel if they have made a decision it would be a waste of time and I can't make it there until mid-March.

Great place. Lived in Portland my whole life (36). Ready for something new. L&C is also super nice.

As a former PNW resident and current Atlanta resident, I was shocked to find how much parts of Atlanta remind me of Portland at times. I do love the NW (although L&C is a much better Portland choice than Oregon IMO) but going to the Little Five Points, Virginia Highlands, Grant Park and Candler Park neighborhoods gives me a fix of what I love about Portland (quirky stores, great coffee shops, good music venues, laid back people), and the weather is beautiful 80% of the time here (compared to 20% of the time in PDX/Seattle). My $.02.

I've heard that before, it's the reason Emory/GSU/UGA all made my list. My wife's best friend lives in Braselton too so that's a bonus. I'll second the L&C over Oregon too. Their campus is pretty awesome and there is way more to do in Portland than in Eugene. I think I'd actually need a full ride + to go to Oregon for law.
