Woot woot! Just got the big envelope from Emory with "Congratulations" right on the front! Might be flying down for ASD. Applied in early February, PM for numbers.

The BLSA Preview Day is April 11-13, I believe. Not sure about the standard ASD.

This is what I was referring to.

Withdrawing, this thread has been awesome! I've been eye-ing Emory for years so it's kinda sad to say goodbye, but good luck to everyone who ends up attending! Hopefully my spot/scholly goes to someone here!

Emory's spring break is this coming week. I'm guessing we can safely assume no decisions this week?

Does anybody have information about Emory's scholarship negotiation policy? I have some really great offers from comparable schools (see profile), but still prefer emory. Emory has offered $54,000 total, but the total cost of attendance is still arround $150,000 even after the scholarship.

I already emailed them trying to make contact and do some negotiation, but they have completely ignored it. No response.

They don't negotiate.

I just got an email from Emory finaid saying
, it has been determined that you have received loans in excess of the Federal loan limits.
I'm assuming this is from having used Federal Loans to fund my UG education. Did anyone else get this email? Or better yet, does anyone know what the Federal limit is?

Hello – it’s Ethan Rosenzweig, the dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Emory Law. I appreciate your allowing me to post messages periodically throughout the admission process. It’s Spring Break on campus this week, and I am jealous of everyone at the beach or the slopes while I stare longingly out my window. But, it is also a good time to provide an update on the process:

Application Decisions: Due to technology issues with the LSAC application portal, we extended the application deadline to March 15. Later this week, I anticipate our next phase of acceptances to hit the US Mail system. I hope you know that it is my goal to communicate these decisions as quickly as possible, and I sincerely appreciate your patience. For candidates to whom the Admission Committee is unable to offer admission, I will send you an email as soon as I learn of the decision. This is always a tough note for me to communicate, but I want to get you this decision quickly as well so that you can finalize your law school plans for the fall.

Phone Calls: New this year, the Admission Committee has asked me to obtain additional information about some applications we have reviewed. Thus, I think I will email folks to set-up phone calls where appropriate, rather than just call out-of-the-blue and catch someone off guard. Just a heads-up that this may occur. I promise there is nothing more to read into this than I am gathering more details on a person’s file as we spend a lot of time reviewing the application with a goal is to give the applicant every chance for admission.

Scholarships: All applicants are considered for merit based aid during the admission process, and any scholarship is communicated within your admission letter. I am laughing because I have had 7 students email me about their lack of a scholarship when, in fact, it was printed in their admission letter. (This reminds me of when I was clerking for a judge, and a lawyer appeared to argue for reconsideration on a judgment, when in fact, the lawyer had won the case but overlooked that part. Oh my goodness!)

D.C. Event: We will be in Washington, DC a little early this year to welcome students to Emory Law. Our student-run Emory Law School Supreme Court Advocacy Project had one of its cases selected by the Court for oral argument on March 18. Thus, we are having a reception to honor both our Class of 2016 and these students. Between me and you, I am a little jealous of our students, for I think they have accomplished more than I ever hoped, and they are still in law school!

Employment Report: We will be sending out our annual employment report, statistical information, and career guide to admitted students later this week. Similar to what we report to the American Bar Association, this data breaks-down employment outcomes by types of jobs as well as where our students are employed. I believe that the newest U.S. News rankings list the employment percentages of certain job categories this year, and our report should provide the data behind these calculations. As always, if folks have questions, just send me an email to admission(a)law.emory.edu, and I will do my best to assist.

I spent time working with folks on this report this year, and I would appreciate your feedback. Within the report, we tried hard to communicate the power of our externship program where students gain credit for working at various Atlanta Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, nonprofits, and courts while in law school, as well as the breadth of our alumni network. Did this come across in the report, and how could I do this better? I would value your feedback on this issue (and any other suggestions you have) as the employment/career factors are so critical to applicants in deciding which community to join. Your insight is invaluable, and I hope you will send me an email if you have comments or suggestions.

That’s it for now. I always write this, but I can’t emphasize it enough. This year’s applications have been amazingly stellar. It is such a privilege to read your essays and resumes. One of my favorite parts of the job is putting a face to an application, and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

If you need anything, shoot an email to admission(a)law.emory.edu.

And pretty embarrassing, to be honest, no? I try not to judge schools based on admissions communication but this is a pretty fundamental thing anyone who works in an office knows to proof, particularly considering it was likely sent out to a pretty large set of applicants.

Given Emory's slow timetable, it seems like this whole LSAC snafu hit them pretty hard. It's funny to think that a lot of us won't have decisions until basically April, but at this point what's waiting three more weeks?

Also, I've had a couple of interactions with admissions and they've been kind and courteous. Don't judge them because of a computer glitch.

Same! Although, I did laugh out loud with the <FNAME>
