I was checking out the external scholarships (as someone who will surely not get anything straight from UGA) and I'm surprised at how limited they are! I remember browsing UNC's external scholarships and counting something close to 80 of them before I got tired of counting. For a school like UGA I find this surprising.

I think their e-mail system is very screwy... I submitted my application on December 23rd. On December 27th, status checker said my application was received but not processed. On January 8th, status updated to say that my application has been processed and is being reviewed by the Admissions committee. Then out of the blue, I got this e-mail this morning:

Dear Jack:

You may check the status of your application on the School of Law's website by registering for "Inside Georgia Law ," our prospective students portal. Please allow a few weeks for the School of Law to receive your recommendation letters and CAS Report. Follow the instructions below to see the status of your application.

Register for Inside Georgia Law by providing the requested information and creating a username and password. Your application status will be displayed on the upper right hand side of the page under "My Application Status." Once registered you can login to Inside Georgia Law at any time to see your current application status. If you have any questions about your status, you may contact the admissions office at (706)542-7060.

Sincerely,

The University of Georgia School of Law
zackw618 wrote:Noticed the status update changed around noon. Accepted! Like others, haven't received an email.

Update: I received the following email this morning regarding scholarships. Still haven't received the usual, "Congratulations, you've been accepted! Here are our ASW dates" email.

You have met the February 1, 2013 deadline and will receive priority consideration for a merit scholarship award. Scholarship decisions will be made during the first two weeks of February.

There is no separate application for scholarships. Awards will be made upon review of the application for admission. Additional materials may be submitted at any time and will be considered in evaluating applicants for scholarship awards.

Congratulations again on your admission to Georgia Law.

Regards,

Paul B. Rollins
Associate Dean

Yeah they send out that email a little bit after you submit your application but most people just register before getting the email.

Yeah, I definitely understand the e-mail...it makes sense for them to do that. The timing of it was just very odd---based on the content of the e-mail, I should have received this e-mail once UGA received my application and prior to it being processed. My status checker as of January 8th says that my application is under review (thus, they have received and processed my full packet including LORs, CAS report, etc), but the e-mail I received on January 11th says to allow them a couple of weeks to receive my LORs and CAS report (clearly an inaccurate, auto-generated statement). I guess my point is that their automated e-mail system (and it seems their communication, in general) seems to have some bugs in it and that I have experienced some communication issues like others on this thread are experiencing, e.g. receiving an e-mail about scholarship information and "congratulations again on your admission" even though they had yet to receive an acceptance letter.

I guess I am just a little frustrated with what seems to be a lack of communication by the UGA admissions department as compared to a lot of other schools of similar caliber (e.g., they could learn a thing or two from the Wake Forest admissions department about communication). It seems to be trend (not notifying ED applicants that they have been pushed to the RA pool, shoddy automated e-mail system, delayed application processing times, etc) that I hope is not indicative of typical behavior from them.

Georgia seems to be working at a trickle pace, whereas a lot of peer schools have been releasing large rounds of decisions in January. What's the deal, Georgia!?!?! (at this point I'm just waiting for the WL notification). Anyone been waitlisted yet?

Checking in.

Applied last week, got accepted to UGA law as of yesterday via the status checker. I'm a super splitter too (2.25/167), so I was surprised by the quick acceptance. Maybe my personal statement was better than I thought.

You're in, unless you have major CF problems or your personal statement was about how you hope to grow up to be an astronaut.

Applied in the beginning of December...still haven't heard anything. Been under review since January 10th! Has anybody that applied around then heard back?

It looks like only two people who submitted December 10th or later have reported a decision based on LSN (which is clearly only a sample AND these dates may be scewed, but it's all I've got- sorry!)

I submitted around Dec. 1, but my last letter of recommendation wasn't submitted until Dec. 10. I was accepted on Thursday, so hopefully you'll hear soon.

My application status changed to "under review" a few days ago... I hope to hear back from them soon!

I think you'll be in anyway but since you're from out of state, I would recommend expressing in some way to the admissions committee that you have a genuine interest in UGA (if that's the case). A reason they might be holding you longer is they think you might not really want to go all the way across the country for law school (noticed you were USC for undergrad). Could help, won't hurt.

I received a pretty generous scholly from Alabama at 26k but would really prefer UGA. Is it proper to inform UGA of this offer before they finish with scholarships or after I hear back in February?

I'd wait to hear from UGA before negotiating...

I'm in the exact same situation. I got the same offer from 'bama, but would much rather be in Athens.

Also, I got a fee waiver for UGA today in the mail......a week after I was accepted. Awkward?

This would also be my recommendation. If you send it now you will have less to send them after you get your initial scholarship offer from them. If you wait, you can assess your initial scholarship offer and see if you can use the Bama $ increase it.

Hopefully some decisions come out today... Based on this forum and LSN, there haven't been many decisions this week. Maybe they wanted to wait 'til Friday to get some weekends off to a great start.

I came across this article yesterday and thought some of you might be interested. It's an interview with Dean Rollins talking about the school, admissions process, etc. The interview was done in January of 2011, so it may be a little out of date but a lot is probably still applicable.

Hopefully those of us who haven't received good news yet won't have to wait too much longer. Though if you are stuck at/below the medians like me, odds are that we still have some waiting to do.

That is a cool article... it's always good to know how the other side thinks.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
