We talked about it a few pages ago. The sum of it is that it just doesn't matter. If you want a good JD required job in schools ranked 17ish to 30 you HAVE to come in knowing you'll have to be in the top 20% (for some of them top 30%) for that to happen. Those who are there will graduate with a job (IMHO). The rest will struggle. Therefore, when examining school in thst range I really don't pay attention to those reports.

Their clerkship rate dropped significantly, that's not good for this school as it was something they prided themselves on.

I really don't mean to advocate for them as I'd say that for any school but I think a lot of applicants are looking at "new" data and deciding based on that. I really think making any sort of decision based on one year changes (up or down) is just a mistake. What if next year their clerkship placement will rise by 15 percent? Does that mean that people who want clerkships accept any W&L offer? I don't think so. We have to look at trends, at 3-5 year statistics and not see a change in our application year and say things like: I'll go to Alabama and not Fordham just because they rose so much in the rankings when my goal is NYC biglaw (true story). The whole "oh X just happened this year so we should be very worried to attend at school Y".

Just to counter, I agree with what you're saying, but I think a schools stability to find it's graduates a job is an important factor to consider.

Very true. But it should be looked at a 3-5 year prism and not a year by year one

Honestly, if offered similar money, chasing a clerkship would be the only reason I would consider W&L over WUSTL. WUSTL only puts 3% in Clerkships :(

I just looked at the updated LST and shiiiiiiiiiiit.... nevermind. Although they do still place more clerkships, it is not nearly as significant as I thought it was, for some reason. I would be better off chasing clerkships in Iowa. :|

I feel like I'm a broken record on this issue but it all sounds 0L talk to me. I really don't understand how anyone could make any decision, on any school for that matter, based on a LST change of one year. I just don't get it.

I definitely understand that, and it would not be that issue alone, but while other schools seem to be improving/holding the same, I feel like it is fair to consider a drop, at least somewhat.

Going from 12% unemployed to 33% unemployed is quite a jump and not insignificant, imo.

And it sounds like 0L talk because it is 0L talk 8)

I think the drop could partly be attributed to fluctuations in class size. I dunno how many 2011 grads they had versus 2012 grads, but assuming that the school placed a similar number of grads into jobs in 2012 as they did in 2011, any increase in class size is just going to inflate the under-employed rate.

I think the drop is partly because the C/O 2012 had 187 grads whereas C/O 2011 only had 121...Assuming that the school placed a similar number of grads into jobs in 2012 as they did in 2011, an additional 60 grads is just going to inflate the under-employed rate.

The class of 2012 had 130 grads. I don't even think my class has 187 grads and we're the largest in history (unintentionally, as has been well documented).

we talked about this many times. with schools in that rank (16/17-30) all the employment data is just not as relevant IMO. you need to come in knowing you gotta make it to the top 20-30% of your class (I say 30% for school 16-20 and 20% for schools 21-30) or bad things will happen. the kids who are in those rank will be okay (combined with how they fare in OCI, their nature, ability to network and sell themselves etc. but that goes for any LS student, top or bottom). If you have that mentality in mind, you realize that the change in employment just doesnt matter as much. be in that rank, all things equal you'll be in a position to finish school with a job. don't be in that rank, assume the worst.

Yeah I edited that because I realized that i was looking at 1L class sizes not grads. My b!
