I'm on the wait list and I did a phone interview. Just got a hand written note by Dean McShay saying it was a pleasure to speak with me and "good luck!" Is this normal? Can't be bad...

Got that as well for an on campus meeting and class tour etc. and I've been accepted.. So I think it's either standard procedure at the very least.
On a side note, I really like that they're very personal .

They state that they do not negotiate and I haven't heard of anyone here who was able to up the scholly through competing offers.

Damn...I don't want to just withdraw, but $750 is too high if they aren't even going to match my new comp offer. Now I don't know what to do. At ASW there was talk of possible increases after deposits, but that would be a serious gamble.
I'd just call and be honest about your situation and ask. If there's no chance of an increase I have a pretty good feeling they'd just tell you.

What I did hear is that if you say you're committed to attend but cannot afford the deposit for whatever reason they can work with you.

Bottom line is this: these deposits are just part of the game. If you want to have W&L or any other school in play while still looking at different options or waiting on more decisions or schollys it is a luxury that you need to pay for. They really have no reason (IMHO) to do anything that will potentially not do anything for them (one students numbers are not going to make or break their medians and at this point they already have a good indication of the makeup of the class plus they have a pretty big WL from what we see here). Similarly to other things in life, if you want to be in a position to have more options while keeping what you've got, you need to pay for it. Just part of life.

EDIT: not 'targeted' against you what so ever, just my general opinion for anyone including me.

It's cool. I wasn't speaking against the amount or the right or wrong-ness of them asking for it. I was just speaking about the difficulty of my situation personally. I would be fine paying the $750 if I wasn't so torn.

Basically, I would just love some more time. I am visiting my comp school on the sixth, so I have about a week to decide, but they are firm on their no extension policy. Sooo...yeah. Stressful.
I totally get you and I pray that I'll get the decisions from schools I'm debating on before 4/15

Agreed. I cannot even entertain the idea of a $750 deposit unless there is a better than 50 percent chance I will attend.
First of all, the worst they can say is "no". Maybe they negotiate all the time and the TLS sample size is just too small. Maybe they looked at their numbers today and saw that a bunch of kids with 75%+ LSATs withdraw and they have a new directive to keep everyone with your LSAT or higher on the hook. You get the picture, but the worst that can happen is that you ask and they say "no".

As far as the high cost of the first deposit, I concur about W&L's being prohibitively expensive. If you're seriously considering going, ask for a deadline extension. Claim that you're still waiting on another school and that it's totally out of your hands, W&L is still one of your top choices, etc.

Plus, if they just outright refuse to move on the deadline, offer to deposit today in exchange for more money. Remove the issue of the deposit being "too high for a gamble" by making the money assured.

Got an email around 4pm saying a decision had been reached and that the status checker would be updated by close of business today, but not saying what the decision was. The message said that if I was accepted or wait listed, I would receive another email, and that there would be no further correspondence if denied.

Result: Wait listed.

Timeframe and numbers:
Applied - March 1st.
Complete - March 4th.
Decision - March 28th (email saying go look at status checker, then status checker updated about 45 minutes later).
LSAT: 166
GPA: N/A (Attended a college that did written evaluations instead of grades.)
Nontraditional (graduated 2004, working since then)
Virginia resident.
LSN Profile: lawschoolnumbers.com/ABC987

Going to withdraw. Good luck to everyone else on the wait list!

waitlisted as well.... looking at lawschoolnumbers.com, no one has been accepted since march 8th and only one since late february. I wonder if W&L has filled its acceptance quota and is just putting everyone qualified on waitlist
