I feel like I had strong numbers and what should be considered impressive softs (PM me for details). Yet, I was waitlisted. I did not do an optional essay about why x-school for any application (probably a horrible move). I just wasn't able to write a very strong one without it sounding like it was formulaic.
Looking at previous years of cycles individuals with my stats got in with quite a bit $$$$. I think that maybe last year they looked beyond the numbers and thus accepted a lot more people under the median in LSAT and/or GPA... which is probably why they over-enrolled and have a significant portion of the class for this cycle already filled.
We just missed the window. W&L is like all schools in which the most important factor is defending and when possible increasing their ranking, and like all law schools they let individuals below their medians in so they can say they don't just look at numbers. Statistically speaking though... they do. All law schools do.

I wrote the optional essay, too, and got in. Also, just a fun fact that I gleaned from my crazy research that will do you all more good than it will do me now: last year it looks like they habitually gave out decisions on Thursdays, and my acceptance was on a Thursday as well, so they may be repeating the pattern this cycle. So cross your fingers extra hard on Thursdays, guys!

Good point! I won't worry about W&L again until Thursday, lol.

Does anyone know when those who chose to defer from last year must commit to attending this year?

They've all already committed. Note of advice to everyone: don't let the admissions process drive you crazy. I certainly went a little crazy listening to what everyone else had to say and comparing my numbers to others. Every year is different. Every class is different. I know W&L definitely looks at having students who are different from the norm and not necessarily students who fit the numbers. Maybe you just aren't a good fit at the moment or maybe they don't see something in you that they want for their law school community. That's life.

Hi all. I was committed to W&L until UT (dream school) snatched me up last minute and I just wanted to pass along that the reason W&L might give out a lot more WL this year is because they we're having to try pretty hard to get people to defer last year and still way overenrolled. I think a lot of this had to do with the old (now promoted apparently) Dean of Admissions, Twitty, and the fact that everything they do at W&L is personalized and always first class. Because of last years situation, W&L is in the position to be really picky so don't panic... They just don't want to accidentally get 50 more kids than usual again, therefore more liberal use of the WL.

They said they sent something the day they sent the email, but I still haven't gotten mine, and it's been almost a week. I check anxiously every day. If/when I do get it, though, I'll let you know.

The same for me. I was wondering if I'd misread or something! Especially because I'm in DC and it's not exactly that far away.

Just got an e-mail saying a decision will be posted by the day's end.

Unless they're URM friendly, I'm anticipating a ding, but who knows, this cycle has been pretty unpredictable so far.

Good luck either way! Without a scholly, which I'm not expecting if admitted, I'm not sure I could afford W&L, but I do love the school!
