For the 500 word personal statement requirement, did anyone edit existing personal statements? Or should I just give in and write one specifically for FSU? Hoping to finish up the app to submit tonight.

Thanks!

I hacked my 1,100 word PS down to about 530 and pretty much eliminated any narrative power there might have been. Still did just fine.

If your numbers are borderline and you want to go there, though, I'd take the time to write a separate one.

2012Lsatscore wrote:Totally did this! I just took my two page general statement and edited it down to like approx. 550. I don't think they care if you have good numbers.

Thanks, y'all. I was hoping to get my apps considered ahead of the December LSAT rush, so I'm trying to be as efficient with my time as possible. My numbers aren't out of the park, but being close to the 75% for GPA and LSAT, I think I may take your approach.

They really don't care about the PS if you have good numbers. I edited mine down and didn't read it the whole way through before submitting. Looked back through it the other day and i had a serious gramatical error/oversight. Despite this PS no-no I was still accepted within 2 or 3 weeks of applying.

Got a call from the Dean this morning, admitted with a 50k scholly. 20k for year one and 15k in each subsequent year. I'm in-state, and I wasn't expecting that kind of scholarship aid since I thought they reserved it for OOSers. If the stips are reasonable, that will make FSU super affordable.

Congrats to the others who were admitted.

Numbers well above both 75ths. I gave them my standard 3-page, 1100-word PS. Ignoring the word limit didn't seem to hurt.

2012Lsatscore wrote:I looks like the highest tier applicants are getting the 50K scholarship upfront and the rest of us have to apply. It looks like 35K is the best I can hope for. Being an OOS applicant, that would still leave me with a large amount of debt.

I hate to say it, especially since I haven't even visited, but it looks like I am going to have to withdraw. I might wait and see what they offer, but it looks like they are not going to even come close to beating UGA debt wise, especially if I get the equalizer scholly.

I'll try not to linger in my seat too long. Good luck to the person who ends up in it! :D

Keep in mind that it's pretty easy to establish residency in FL for 2L and 3L years.

So if tuition at FSU was 40k + 22k + 22k (guesstimating future tuition rates), and you had a 35k scholly, you'd be left with 49k in tuition. And if you account similarly for future tuition rates, we can assume you'd pay around an average of 17k each year at UGA with the equalizer for a total of 51k.

So, the tuition rates would probably come out around even between UGA and FSU in that scenario. Just wanted to point that out.

I was reading the definition of a Florida resident for tuition purposes on the Non-Florida resident affidavit and saw the part where it said "Students who depend on out-of-state parents for support are presumed to be legal residents of the same state as their parents." Can someone define "depend...for support"?

Perhaps I should visit and discuss all this with them.

Do they claim you on their taxes?

Are you asking or are you saying that that is what it means to depend on their support?

I think that's what it means. I'd call the Financial Aid office, I'm sure they can definitely answer that for you.

If you don't attend, I'll take your seat 8)

Acceptance call yesterday. Scores above both medians. Lady said scholarship info / application would be in my official acceptance package mailed to my address. What does that mean in terms of amount of possible scholarship? (above post said less than 50k?).

Congrats to those in the recent batch of admits. Has anyone else gone under review since this last batch that passed?

I seem to be the only one stressing FSU, but has anyone gone under review recently? I'm starting to get anxious.

FSU just seems to do things in batches. I was complete for like 2-3 weeks with no movement then suddenly went under review and was admitted with a scholarship two days later, along with a bunch of others who had the same situation. Wouldn't worry about long periods of silence from FSU, that just seems to be how they operate.

That's true. After reading through last years thread I thought I would've heard back by now since my LSAT is a couple points above median. I'm getting kind of antsy since my app will reach 3 months of being complete on Monday and I still haven't gone under review. Hopefully there's another batch coming up for review tomorrow.

Three months is kind of a long time. If you aren't under review in the next batch I'd send an email and ask if everything's cool, but I'm sure it's fine.

Hope you get an admit soon!

That's what I'm thinking. I kind of want to e-mail them now, but I guess I'll wait until I reach the 3 month period. And thanks!

I was accepted on 12/6, but I have not received my acceptance packet. How long did it take those of you that have been accepted to receive it? Also I went to FSU for undergrad and can answer any questions about the school or Tallahassee.

Still no movement -___-

They must be pretty busy, I'd consider myself a pretty competitive applicant.
