Finally got fed up last night and emailed asking for scholly info. I didn't quite say "doods, full ride at Iowa and they want my money on the 1st." But I tried to get that across in the most polite manner possible. I'll let ya'all know if it works.

Hi, I am wondering how long did you guys get your merit scholarship email after being accepted by Wisconsin Law? I was just admitted yesterday, so I'm thinking if I should send them an email to ask for some scholarship~Any advice?

I got in yesterday also. congrats! The consensus seems to be 2-3 weeks after acceptance. Although, I'm not sure whether it comes snail or email.

Congrats! Should we ask them in email or just wait for their notification? After all, some schools' deadlines are approaching and we need to make a decision soon.

Well the cup came in the mail today, which is nice, but not as nice as the full ride offer from a certain border rival. Looks like my withdrawl email will be following shortly. Good luck everyone and have fun in Madison!

I've been hemming and hawing over this. I got in on Feb 28th and tried to be polite and wait for an email. But I really do need at least a few moments to think about going in to a lot of debt and they're getting too close to the Iowa deadline. So, I emailed. I think as long as you're honest with them it's ok to let them know your timeline.

I did make sure to reference that I had read the previous emails that they sent me saying that merit scholarships were being emailed on a rolling basis. I wanted to make sure I didn't come across as entitled or demanding. But they, presumably, want me to go to their school, and the ball is completely in their court.

For those admitted in the last few days - maybe wait until next week to seem like you're giving them time?

Please do let us know when they respond. I know they don't like people to post specific scholly amounts, but I would like to know what their general response was... I was admitted about a week later than you and am on the edge of emailing them as well. :)

Edit: Just saw your last post above. Thanks for the additional information! I really would love to know how this goes...

Congratulations again on your acceptance! The Scholarship Committee met today, and will definitely be awarding you some type of scholarship. Although the details of the award are not readily available, I'm confident that you will hear back from them by the end of next week. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued patience.

One the one hand, a response! Signs of life! There has been a meeting!

On the other hand. Are you fucking kidding me? We are talking about, oh, I don't know, the next 3 years of my life and tens of thousands of potential dollars and they're going to be generous and guarantee that I have a princely 3 days to decide*. I want to clutch my metaphorical pearls and be shocked, SHOCKED at the lack of professionalism but my mom works for the UW (different school) and this is just how they roll.

*I'm sure IA would be kind and give most people in this thread a few extra days as long as we were open and communicated with them. I mean, they've been generous and professional through the entire process. I'm just really cranky.

Since the letter does ask us not to share these (out of concern for the feelings of fellow students) please don't quote the scholly offer. I care about the feelings of others.

Got an email a bit ago: $10,000/year, good academic standing stip (2.0 GPA). I'm in-state 3.66 164.

This means IA is still cheaper with the full ride I have there. Not sure if I'm going to try and negotiate or not. I've not heard of anyone with resident status getting more money.

And from currently trawling LSN it looks like we've lost michaelm55 to UT Austin. Congrants, man. Austin is supposed to be as awesomely odd as Madison but with better weather and food :)

I got a decision on 2/28 but my application had been complete since 11/14. I found that several schools saw I was taking the December LSAT and held my file based on that, even though I didn't ask.

yeah, I got screwed by this also. I had registered for the Feb lsat, AFTER I had submitted my apps. Bunch of schools held my applications until I realized early March. This definitely screwed me.

I don't see anything on reimbursement in their emails but it doesn't hurt to ask if they'll cover part of it if you end up attending.

As we get closer we can also start planning rides from the airport. I don't have room to put anyone up but I can save folks cab fare.

Annet, I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I found out on Tuesday (20 minutes after I confirmed my intent to enroll at WI) that I got a big enough scholarship from Iowa to make years 2 and 3 (with the RA position) free. For an applicant with my #'s, I can't ignore an offer like that from a top 30 school. I'm negotiating right now, I'll let you know if its worthwhile.

I talked to Dean Scheller this afternoon. First off, she's lovely*. Secondly, she let me know that the scholarship committee is meeting again on Thursday. The scholarship negotiation thread does not lie. Deans will not yell at you for trying to negotiate. As long as you're honest and polite the worst they can say is no.

So, for those of us sitting with Iowa acceptances, UW is clearly aware of their deadline and is working to get another round of offers out this week from the sound of things. I have no idea if I'm going to deposit at Iowa to give myself more time to decide, but I will definitely be doing it ON April 1.

*And sounds like she's my age... which brings me to my first returning student "omg" moment. Financial Aid deans may very well be my age and not crotchety old men in tweed. Which, yes, I already knew from working in med school admissions in college but try explaining that to my brain right now.

under review 1/23 and still no response so it looks like a reject and I need to move on. Withdrew from Iowa and down to Minnesota and Indiana- deadlines approaching.

I'm in the exact same position as you, but from what I hear, Wisconsin isn't into giving out great scholarships. But I've narrowed it down to IU an MN also, stuck at 2/11 here.

Btw, my friend who applied last year said they never got back to her either way

I'm under review as of the same date. I should be an easy admit here.

I feel your pain, this was me earlier in this thread. Except you guys have the added fun of other school's deposit deadlines. UW Madison really does seem to get the award for slowest law school in at least the top 100. Even though I'm sitting at a good outcome most of the process was ridiculous and unprofessional.

I would email them and indicate that if you don't hear before X or Y deadline you plan to withdraw. I imagine that should get some movement because if you're in at MN then WI absolutely needs/wants your numbers.
