Re: UC Irvine c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I enjoyed my time at ASW today. I wasn't able to go both days unfortunately since I split my time at USC and UCI. I met a TLSer who probably doesn't realize it(I was one of the few black people there if that helps anyone narrow it down). I was going to try to find their name but I am too lazy to sift through the thread and see it. Anyhow, I really enjoyed my time. I thought the mock class was pretty good. A few students really got into it which was nice, because it allowed me to sit and just see the interactions. It was nice that we were able to get candid responses from the faculty and administration and were able to talk to Dean Chem personally if you had any questions. With that said, I will say I think I had a better time at USC when i visited and felt like it was more the place for me, but I will have to let it all sit in and wait to determine that decision especially since UCI is much more affordable. What did everyone else feel about their time? Was the first day better/worse?

Haha. I didn't make the early Friday activities, but people were talking about this a lot.
Also, I was really impressed with ASW.

They literally wined and dined us these past two days, but I would say there was more "excitement" with the moot court and D&B Friday, today was jam packed with info and that wonderful Crystal Cove reception. Best ever.Dmini7 wrote:I enjoyed my time at ASW today. I wasn't able to go both days unfortunately since I split my time at USC and UCI. I was disappointed that the Crystal Cove reception didn't have alcohol. I was ready to toast to MVP Gunner Al and drink 5-7 glasses of wine (yes, I counted ).ammanley wrote:They literally wined and dined us these past two days, but I would say there was more "excitement" with the moot court and D&B Friday, today was jam packed with info and that wonderful Crystal Cove reception. You missed some amazing creamy potatoes with pulled pork and toppings served in a martini glass. I think this is the first time in my life I have ever actually eaten out of a martini glass.eav1277 wrote:How did everyone else feel about the crystal cove reception? Went to steelhead, didn't drink, felt bummed. So I am probably not the best to comment about that part.

ASW has made me lean more toward UCI over SC. Chem is a great speaker and articulated his vision/plan/reality well (the $$$ helps too).

Was I the only one that was really excited about Al? UCI was the only ASW I will be likely to make it to, and I have read so much on TLS about crazy 0L gunners...the first time I saw his hand pop up in the class in the morning I was just about giddy we actually had one, and I got to witness him in action.
Definitely glad I could make it out though, it was a great time!

I was excited as well to see a real-life example of a gunner.Merylian wrote:Was I the only one that was really excited about Al? I spoke briefly with Al at one point because I was so curious about his background etc. He seemed shy and uncomfortable to be approached, though, and it's not like I interrogated him. I was just trying to make casual conversation. Anyway, the only thing I learned about him was that he just graduated from college two weeks ago.
ASW was awesome. I'll definitely be at UCI this fall.

Got an invite to hang out with some 1Ls and 2Ls at Verano after Steelhead. One word: Beirut. I had a blast this weekend, it was great meeting everybody!

ASW was awesome! I will definitely be attending next year. The moot court competition and the legal careers seminar really put me over the edge.
Favorite Moment: During Professor Chacon's mock class, Al was getting ready to ask a final question and Dean Austin actually tapped him on the back to let someone else have a turn! LOL

It's a shame there's not a forum dedicated to posting about and discussing admit days...

I think the Al shot/drink count from yesterday was at 7. But yeah, can someone explain the differences in housing/which they recommend?eav1277 wrote:How nice was Verano? Or anyone else know much about housing? Im leaning towards palo verde if I do on campus housing.

To the person that posted their really nice $5000 scholarship increase letter from Dean Austin who talked about how impressed she was with you after reviewing your app again and mentioned the fact that you're a first-gen college student, basically made it very personal (Couldn't find the post in the thread, or maybe I didn't go back enough pgs...I would name names but don't know if you wanna keep anonymous on TLS) PM me please. I have a question. We also met during ASW. (So much for keeping my own anonymity on TLS. )

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I could go on for days about the ASW but I will keep it brief. I really appreciated how originized the events were and how enthusiastic every faculty member was about the program. But the thing that impressed me most were the current students. I spent the majority of my time at the networking events speaking to and getting to know the current 2Ls and 3Ls. Every single one truly drank the Kool-Aid and have no regrets with their decisions despite turning down some really big name schools and scholarships. They clearly have created abound with each other, something I haven't seen at any other school I've visited. I am glad I got to meet some of you and look forward to seeing many of you in August...except Al.

During ASW, I was mentally picturing Jim Cramer consulting me on what school I should pick.*
"They got the employment numbers! They got dedication! They got experiential learning! And they got Dean Chemerinsky! Let's bump it up to a consider!"
*This may go over your head if you don't know who Jim Cramer is and/or have never seen Arrested Development.
