W&M is pretty far from NYC, just FYI

Yea, but I drove 20 hours from Springfield, MO for a bike race here in NYC already. After that, what's another 7?

Good lord  Well, enjoy the drive, and I hope you avoid rush hour!

Yea, I'm aware that I'm crazy. But it was more expensive for me to ship my bike as luggage or FedEx than to buy a second plane ticket and put it in the seat next to me. Where's the logic in that?

Caught the rush hour into NYC this morning unfortionatly

Waitlisted this morning too, everyone. Pleased to finally get a response; planning on riding out the waitlist and seeing what happens. This is my second waitlist. Certainly not the news I was hoping for when I applied, but it beats a rejection.

One final note. I just logged on to the status checker, which I hadn't checked since getting my WL notification and then withdrawing this morning, and my file is still listed as "in review." So, for anyone still waiting (or intrepid applicants looking back at this thread next cycle), apparently your status checker is relatively removed from the actual decision process.

Again, good luck everyone!

Should we tour/interview before we write our LOCI or does it not matter.

Presonal choice but I say it gives you more to write about if you do. How it fits well and stuff etc.

There is an "intent" form you need to fill out by April 1 I think, but deposit date is May 1, which is awesome compared to other schools!

Yeah I did the hold my seat for the intent form, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything - because it seems too good to be true.

New LST Score Reports, W & M kicked some ass.

edit: except for the large amount of school funded jobs

Still a 2% increase even with those taken out.

Does anyone know what the nature of W & M's "school-funded" jobs are?

Don't know. Also I am curious as to why they have so many this year as opposed to last year. Did they not report them last year, or report them as something else, or not have them? If the LT, FT, BR scores is roughly the same (actually went up), where did the mass of school-employed grads come out of?

I believe the grand majority of W&M's school funded jobs are part of a growing trend that many schools refer to as legal corp. These are PI jobs that in which the school pays your salary as part of a year-long placement. From what I understand these placements usually result in a job after the first year or students have lined up work in the private sector by then. It's not big law, but it's also not working in the admissions office, pushing papers. Not a bad thing if you ask me.

Hm good to know. I wonder if it's a new program or if they just reported these grads as unemployed before 2012?

It's not a new thing at W&M, this is the first year schools are REQUIRED to disclose school funded jobs, the fact of the matter is they simply didn't have to report it as anything other than a legal job prior to this year.

No, look at the breakdown of numbers. 204 grads in 2011 and 2012. All the employments numbers remained basically the same EXCEPT that unemployed dropped in 2012 by a lot.

Edit: What I mean is that the school-employed jobs were not listed as FT, LT, BR jobs in 2011.

No, that's not unemployment that dropped, it UNDERemployment. These jobs were always there, its just now getting reported.

If you look at the 2011 and 2012 ABA reports, you'll see that unemployment dropped drastically this past year.

2011
Employed, BR: 127
Employed, JD ad: 29
Employed, prof pos: 6
Employed, non-prof: 1
Pursuing grad degree: 8
Total unemployed + unknown: 33

2012
Employed, BR: 119 (-8)
Employed, JD ad: 22 (-7)
Employed, prof pos: 11 (+5)
Employed, non-prof: 0 (-1)
Pursuing grad degree: 3 (-5)
Total unemployed + unknown: 8 (-25)
School employed: 41

So where were the 2011 school-employed grads listed? Certainly not under bar required jobs. I believe they were mostly listed under unemployed in 2011. 41-25=16. So that leaves 16 more spots to be filled. 8+7+1? But why would school employed be listed in different categories? Strange.
