Probably fine, but a bit slower than many other applicants in this thread. I applied on the 14th and was admitted earlier this week. Should note that I didn't go complete until the 26th.

Also, no packet today. Looks like Monday at the earliest. =/

how long did you guys have your applications "under review?" mine says it is under review and that the current status date was one 11/16, don't know if I should be worried with the quick turnaround that some people are getting

Got my packet in the mail today. Not as much money as I had hoped for - actually only 1/3 of what UVA is offering.

Last week I got an e-mail from admissions saying they would like to see my Fall grades before they make a decision. Anyone have any experience with this? I have had a pattern of slightly lower grades in the Fall compared to the Spring, but it still seemed a bit odd.

BTW, app was received 11/13 and numbers are 3.51/166.

For those who received Graduate Fellowships, did you specifically apply for them or were they offered to you without completing an additional essay?

I got a $4k fellowship without writing anything.

I wrote like two paragraphs just because someone said it got them instate tuition and $4k. I got one but it just sounds generic so I don't know if I got the one that I applied for.

It seems that all of the accepted out-of-state candidates above a certain threshold were offered the $9K (i.e. the difference between OoS and in-state tuition) + $4K 'graduate fellowship.' The fellowship, as some have explained, is 10 hours / week with the first year devoted to clerical (seemingly) duties and the next two years doing research with faculty.

Dean Shealy rang me yesterday to extend her congratulations -- a very kindly lady -- and I asked her about the status of my application to the Election Law fellowship program and how it might interact with the (generic) graduate fellowship. If I understood her correctly -- and I think that I did -- the Election Law bit would take the place of the aforementioned, undefined research in the second and third years.

I am out of state, I was directly offered 15K per year as long as I maintain grade C or above which is very easy according to this letter. And I know people are definitely offered much more than this but have no idea they are in or out of state.

I went under review on the 15th, got accepted on the 27th. Not sure what your numbers are but mine are 168/3.72. I'd say give it another week, especially if your numbers are closer to their median, they probably are getting swamped with app's at the moment. If you're above median's in both GPA/LSAT I'd honestly say don't stress it. Odds are, you're fine.

And to those wondering, I got offered the graduate fellowship + $$ and I did NOT apply for it. I'm out of state and it's contingent on me maintaining a B or above (I believe) which, judging from the letter, seems easy - they note that only one person lost a fellowship last year, so good odds.

What sorts of things indicate whether people are offered the fellowship, does anyone know? Residency? Merit-based? Does almost everyone get offered one, even if they did not apply?
I did not apply for one but am definitely interested, now that I'm hearing about it... and I wonder if I can still apply for one now that I've been admitted already?
Anyway, I hope to receive my admissions packet in the mail tomorrow (status checker said it was mailed Wednesday), so I'll find out then hopefully!

Tendency seems to be OOS preference, merit-based. It grants IS tuition rates plus a stipend, so it makes sense that OOSers are offered it more. Lower numbers, particularly lower LSAT scores tend not to get the fellowship. You don't need to apply for the fellowship.

The problem with the fellowship for me is that if W&M comes up short on the total merit-aid package, the 10hr/wk work requirement kind of limits one's ability to go out and find supplemental income. IE if the W&M offer is 15k short of my comfort zone, I won't be able to work part-time in LS to bring in extra cash since that would require working 20+ hrs/wk while going to school full-time.

Might all be a moot point so I'll just reserve judgement on it until I see their offer, though. As long as the finances worked out, I'd love to have the fellowship.

Is anyone else having trouble getting on status checker? It's been dropping my connection every time I've tried checking it today :?

Thanks for the input! I'm OOS, and my LSAT is 168, so maybe that bodes well for me.

Being in-state and having fairly strong stats, should I feel offended that W&M hasn't offered me any money yet or should I chalk it up to the fact that they believe I already have tuition covered through GI Bill? While that would be nice, reality is I'm not going to be entitled to full GI Bill benefits. Would it be completely classless to contact them and let them know that my check isn't already cashed through our wonderful military?

It is too early to negotiate money right now. I am sure quite a few people offered money will not attend. Late Jan seems a good time to talk to W&M about your situation.

Of course, I know you're right. Still, for the forward-leaning type, it's hard to sit idly-by, ya know? Painful, but welcome to the world of law school admissions.

Received an email requesting fall grades prior to a decision. Has anybody else received the same notice/know why they would request that?

I received that email about a week ago. Not sure if they are really interested in getting more info about grade trends or if it is just a way to delay decisions and see more applications.
