I have created a spreadsheet to try and calm the nerves of those of us whom scour LSN on the daily and come back with heightened anxiety. I can be guilty of this but I have put my analytics experience to good use and have realized something quite important: LSN isn't necessarily representative.
For example, USC's 2012 Cycle had less than 9% of the total applicant pool and less than 13% for the school's 1457 acceptances. In light of this, I have broken down all the numbers to show what discrepancies, if any, there may be. Fortunately for myself and all of you, there are.
It appears that the LSN applicant pool has slightly higher numbers across the board than the true 25th, median, and 75th of USC's cycle. Please see the attached spreadsheet and let me know if you have any questions or would like to see anything else.https://www.dropbox.com/s/ad5q7hy0rljurvr/USC.xlt
