They also have lots of pool parties and I heard the mangement is all kids but there are always fresh cookies I heard. Also the continuum is far from campus you can't ride a bike easily it is a decent distance, need to take a Bus or something. Also the estates is far too so your have to take a bus or drive. Also Gainesville traffic sucks during the week and driving in campus sucks its a campus wide 20 mph speed limit. Also the bus system is not as reliable as you think the phone app sucks, it is random. Also the busses will just drive by you if they are full. I recommend if you can, live as close to these school as possible.

Yeah, pretty much all of the apartments I looked at were mixed but more undergrad-heavy, except for the Continuum. I requested the building that's not on the main lot and is it's own complex essentially, so it's far from the pool and all of the action towards the middle. It was perfect for me, the Continuum was my second choice.

About how long do you think it would take to drive to the school from the Continuum? And about how early prior to classes should one arrive to get a spot. Thanks!

It takes about 10 minutes to get to the law school from there if traffic is mediocre. University can get backed up a lot. It is not that far of a distance just a pain to go to your car and everything adds up. You also can't drive through campus so you can't taken 2nd ave all the way there due to campus driving restrictions during the day. I heard you can get parking until like 10ish in the morning.

You can generally get parking up until about 10am, again around lunch, and then generally after 2pm. The only time parking REALLY sucks is when you are running late to class around 9:50. For all the other times, I've found parking near the school or right by the school on frat row.

Keep getting these emails from the law school about contacts. And
I'm living 2.5 minute walk from the law school library.

Does anyone know if UF has any roommate matching services or house/apartment/sublease listings for entering 1Ls?

I don't think the law school does but it's pretty easy to find a roommate in Gainesville. There are tons of apartments near the law school.

Hey Guys. Deadline is approaching!

Current students: what have you guys managed to line up for summer employment? Has anyone landed a paying job? Also, how are things looking for private firm jobs? Has anyone you know been successful at landing good opportunities for after graduation or during 2l oci? Also, it seems like UF allows only for a very tight student budget. Have people had issues running out of money? The summer is long, and wihout paid work it would be tough to get through. I've heard some positions allow for financial aid. Any insight?

Lastly, it seems as though there is enough around Gainesville to keep an active person busy (ie. Kayaking in the lake, good gym and facilities on campus, etc).

Basically, I'm still on the fence about UF and could use any light anyone can shed on life at UF law and the employment prospects students have run into (I know how to use usnw stats and LST; I'm looking for a more personal interpretation).

CO2016YEAH...

As a rising 2L, I don't know of anyone that doesn't have something to do this summer. A majority of us have externships, a few are taking a class to get it out of the way, some have paid positions, and some are studying abroad. I interviewed for a decent amount of paid positions this summer but unfortunately didn't land one. I'll be working for one of my professors as a research assistant (paid but not much) and completing an externship. It is certainly possible to land a paid position at UF after your 1L year but I wouldn't count on it. From what I have observed, many firms cut paid 1L positions after the economy dropped so there just aren't that many out there, if you're determined to work in Florida, out side the elite schools (Harvard, Yale etc. ) I really do think UF gives you the best opportunity to do so.

Most of the rising 3L's I know have a paid position for this summer, thought I will mention my sample size is pretty small for that.

Good Luck with your decision!

Don't expect a paid position your first summer. They aren't common, and they also aren't the end-all-be-all of your legal career. Plenty of people at the top of the class have fantastic unpaid externships. There isn't an easy answer to financing your summer pursuits...but that's law school for you.

Most everyone has a pretty good job lined up. It's important to do the legwork, and start early. It's easy to get caught up in your studies and not pound the pavement pursuing interviews, but you have to make it a priority towards the end of fall semester/beginning of Christmas break -- it's important to start early. A lot of judges will accept 1L's without grades, and simply hire the first decent resume they receive. Don't expect Career Services to do anything, but that's true at every school.

Life in Gainesville is great, if you like college bars and getting drunk floating down the springs.
