Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
For those still wondering about the interview- I had an off campus alumni one with a nice, younger attorney. Nothing scary or intimidating about the process at all. More of a conversation than anything, all he asked me was "Why law" and "What do you want to study" type questions and the rest was mainly him talking and answering my questions. It was at a big law firm so I wore slacks, dress shirt, and a tie but no suit. He wasn't particularly gushing about Vandy and what he said pretty much conformed to TLS common knowledge: only top 1/3 gets big law, median and below most likely struggle, you shouldn't go without a significant scholarship and you should probably go to a T14 if you can get in. All in all a pleasant experience.

Will be applying as soon as my October LSAT scores come in!! Vandy is my top choice!!
If need be, can I retake the LSAT in December and still have a chance at getting in? Worst case scenario....

Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
Vanderbilt interview questions:
1) Why law?
2) What could you bring to Vanderbilt?
3) What was the most difficult time you had in college?
4) What is your biggest concern about law school? (Threw out a few TLS stats on debt, LYL TLS!)
5) What do you like about Vanderbilt/Why Vanderbilt?
Questions were asked on specific answers. Overall, great interview. He prefaced the conversation by saying the interview is meant to be relaxed so don't worry about trying to overly impress. It seemed as if the interviewer wanted me to ask questions back. Definitely have questions prepared on the person's career, their time in law school, and the particular details about their time in law school that could carry over to today (i.e. What was your biggest challenge during your time at Vanderbilt?)
Good luck everyone!

I had my interview today with an alum of Vanderbilt Law. He was very down to earth and relaxing. I was nervous going into the interview. But you shouldn't be. The interviewer creates a very relaxed environment. My interview went rather well. He is a hiring partner with a firm in Phoenix but he is from the same city as me "NYC." Overall a great experience and I recommend doing the interview if you can.

Checking in! Submitted my app tonight, and I completed my interview earlier in the month. I just feel like an idiot because I could not figure out where to attach my scholy app. I ended up just emailing it shortly after submitting my app, so I hope it doesn't make me seem like too much of a dimwit.

Checking in!
I had an interview with an alum recently; definitely nothing to worry about if you're on the fence about interviewing. He couldn't have been nicer and I found it very laid back. Good luck to everyone!

I'm interviewing next week, does anyone else find the VLS webpage mildly confusing?

Checking in. Applied last night. Didn't schedule an interview but I'm well above medians so I'll have a good shot.

Keep us informed! With their small class, they seem to be focused a lot on fit. It'll be interesting to see how true that is.Dylanlj13 wrote:Checking in. Applied last night. Didn't schedule an interview but I'm well above medians so I'll have a good shot.

It might also help that I'm from Arkansas and they might think that I'm more likely to attend there because it's closer than other top law schools.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Keep us informed! Hi guys. For admissions chances, is it absolutely worth doing an interview? I just submitted my app stating that I had no intention to interview, and they sent me an email highly recommending it.
The reason I wasn't planning on interviewing is that I'm traveling abroad, with very limited phone and Skype access. If essential though, I could try to arrange a phone interview. Is it definitely worth it?

I'd definitely try to make it work, though if you can't on account of traveling, that's understandable. I'd try to let them know that.shibby wrote:Hi guys. I was also asked to interview today. Well, I guess it was more of "encouraged" since they reiterated that it's not required. I'm not sure what this bodes (mid Sep. submitter, traditional splitter) but I may as well schedule one. It does seem like a good opportunity to ask some questions related to the school and the current status of the legal field.

FWIW, I don't think Texas necessarily wanted it's class that small this year. There were two reports of REJECTED applicants being called and offered admission in early August.
This sounds like it could be the makings of a new law school scandal... if Texas is somehow trying to report stats prior to the second offer. Probably not I suppose, but then again law schools have done sketchy things to improve in rankings, and that sounds sketchy to me.
On another note, good luck to all Vandy applicants.

Hey all, I'm not applying to Vandy for LS, but did go here for UG. If anyone has any q's about campus, Vandy life, Vandy girls, Nashville, etc., ask away! I loved my time there.
