All things being equal I'd probably take BC > Irvine for more personal reasons (want to try something new, Irvine doesn't have study abroad, etc.)

agreed, it's a big factor. Getting CA biglaw is harder from BC than from UCI, i believe.teiswei wrote:IMO, education would be about equal. Congrats! At 3.1 169 this is reassuring. How long have you been complete since?

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
Well, I applied in early November and was complete shortly after that, probably middle of the month. I was UR starting on 11/28 and then was I guess bumped up to a second round of review on like 1/18.emarxnj wrote:Tremendous wrote:Got in via email this morning. I'm glad to hear you applied earlier than me. If someone who applied around the time I did had gotten in, I would expect a rejection coming.Tremendous wrote:Well, I applied in early November and was complete shortly after that, probably middle of the month. I think it's going to be a long wait for me. Being URM and below 25th I'd guess they will hold on to my app to see who matriculates and them decideon me. Hopefully not! Coming from a Jesuit school BC is really high on my list.cbarlow1016 wrote:I have no idea..I'm really confused by what they're doingJayJones78 wrote:How should I feel that I'm still only complete? Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
I know that I sent mine a couple weeks later, but considering that those weeks were christmas and new year's, I would consider ours to have been "sent" at roughly the same time (I submitted 1/2), and I'm in the same situation as you. I'm expecting to go UR sometime within the next 2 weeks, but I'm definitely using this as an exercise in patience lol.JayJones78 wrote: How should I feel that I'm still only complete? Sent 12/20

Can anyone give their opinion of BC Law's campus?
I've read it has nice green space and relatively modern buildings, but how does it stack up to some of the other law schools in people's minds?

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
well, i've visited BC, fordham, and BU so BC didn't have much competition to be the best campus by far out of the 3. BU/fordham are probably below average compared to the average school when it comes to facilities (nothing against the actual law schools. i like all 3).Tremendous wrote:Can anyone give their opinion of BC Law's campus?

well, the BU campus isn't bad-- its cool if you like being in the city as i do. it runs down Commonwealth Ave and it's bustling with people and has good energy. it's the law BUILDING that's bad. it's old and ugly on the outside. inside is fine but i hear it can get very hot in there since the heat blasts all day every day and some students have complained about a lack of study space during crunch time but i guess that must happen in many schools. that being said, it's not the worst thing ever but just not as new/nice as other schools. however, they are building a new building which is supposed to be ready fall 2014 and i'm sure it will be very nice. BC is not in boston; it's in a nice suburb so its very beautiful, ery quiet, typical new england feel. the buildings were very nice imo... charming is how i'd describe it. nothing amazing but i liked the campus a lot (and i went to BU undergrad).
fordham-- okay, i was actually surprised at how bad the law school building was-- it's just old and not really nice inside at all... but i think they're building a new place too? not sure when it's supposed to be completed. the fordham building was worse than BU's building for sure...

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
Writing on my phone so forgive the typos. The BU building is pretty ugly from the outside. I've never been inside so I can't speak for that. The campus is right by Fenway, which is a fun area especially when it's baseball season, so that is nice. I wouldn't say that BU is "right in the city." True, it's technically in the city, and it is fairly bustling, but it's still a bit away from "downtown Boston," which I think many people would consider to be the areas surrounding Boston Common. BU is nothing more than a few stops on the T from these places, though. FWIW I live in the north end in Boston, and I commute to the BU area every day for work and grad school. Takes about a half hour. If you go to BC or BU you will learn a lesson to live by in the Boston area..the green line sucks.
BC is much further out and has a completely different feel. It is a pretty campus, by no means magnificent. There are no significant problems, but I think if you are expecting the BC undergrad campus (which is beautiful), you may be disappointed. With that said, I like the law campus a lot...it does give you that New England feel. The library is attractive and the Stuart building is nice, but the wings where some of the classes are held could be considered a little stale. Overall the campus does give you a quiet and serene feel.
A major plus for me about BC is that the campus is pretty much separate from the undergrad (it is, however, directly next to a super nice day school I think..not quite sure what the deal is with that). BU Law is is right next to the student union and right next to the undergrad arts and sciences building so your surrounded by about 15K undergrads. If that's your thing then BU will be nice for you. If not, the BC campus will be more appealing.

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
BU is within walking distance to downtown Boston. It's probably around a 20 min walk to the edge of Boston Commons(from the eastern part of the campus) and it's a pretty nice area of Commonwealth Ave to walk through, when it's warm out. Overall, Boston itself is a pretty small city and BU is a pretty good location from which to travel into Boston, but also other areas such as Cambridge, Brookline, Allston/Brighton etc.
They've also invested a lot in that area since I started there for undergrad, so it looks pretty nice compared to what it used to look like(2008 and before it looked pretty shitty)

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
The law school is directly next to Newton Country Day School and across the street from Mt. Alvernia High School. I believe there are some freshman dorms essentially on the law school campus too, unless that has changed in the last couple of years. The law school used to be on its own but they ran out of dorm space on the undergrad campus and built some new freshman dorms on the law school property and began running more frequent shuttles from the Newton Centre (law school) campus to the Chestnut Hill (undergrad) campus.skri65 wrote:A major plus for me about BC is that the campus is pretty much separate from the undergrad (it is, however, directly next to a super nice day school I think..not quite sure what the deal is with that).
Edit: Looks like this is still the case - approximately 800 BC freshman live on the law school campus. --LinkRemoved--
