Damn, I didn't even realize they gave out scholarships this size. Nice job.

Last year the cap was $30k per year; the year before it was $35k. Still not sure how 3 annual awards add up to $80k.

Aside from that, every year there are 2 full schollys. My understanding is that there are considerations beyond scores for those to be awarded, but my knowledge thereof is minimal, so I could be wrong

I was under the impression much of their scholly money was for need, not merit, but things could be different this year. I was told by a few people I had a shot of getting some money, but based on the lack of updates, I'm skeptical.

Last I heard it was 2/3 and 1/3 of their pool, respectively. People hearing back early are probably getting merit. Merit is used to buy higher scores.
Need and merit offset each other, if anyone is eligible for both.

Very surprising that you heard so early. Guess i have a shot with a 3.6/164. I have a feeling that the magic number this year will be 165. In a declining applicants cycle, they need to protect that median.

Has anyone been admitted with a GPA below median?

Who wants to distract themselves from the waiting game and talk housing in NYC? Brooklyn? Harlem? Street corner? What's the cheapest area to live within a reasonable commute to Fordham?

I'll play. I'm nervous and would like a distraction!

I say Harlem is cheapest and most convenient. Can catch express so it wouldnt be a long ride. I have friends in Harlem and they like it. It's not too sketch as long as you take normal precaution when walking around at night.

Nice! Any idea what the rent is like in Harlem? Also --I'm a little fuzzy on NYC neighborhoods, the 130s-140s are considered Harlem right? Last time I went to New York I stayed in an apartment in the W 110s and it was a really cute neighborhood. You could tell it was "up and coming" but it seemed pretty safe and hadn't been completely taken over by Cosi yet.

Harlem is the way to go for Fordham, you just hop on the 1,2,3. Also guys, properties closer to the river will be cheaper. Fordham is in a gorgeous area (and housing walking distance will prob. be very expensive)

Yes and I think 120s too. I haven't lived in NYC for several years (going on 6) and I didn't live in Harlem so I'm not sure. Rent is still high, I bet, but not as bad... Over the summer, I stayed at an apt through http://www.airbnb.com on 125th and it was AWESOME because the express takes you to 42nd in like, 2 or 3 stops max. the apartment was also really nice.

fyi, my friend lived in a decent part of harlem in a small but nice apartment. he said it was 3 years ago but he paid 2200-2400 for a 3br, 2ba.. so rent is still high but doable.

Well rent can be anything, it really depends. If you want to live alone you can spend 1500-1700 if you go above 120th. If you want to live below it will be around 2000-2100 per month. This figure doesn't include sublets or super tiny apartments with a murphy bed (and a sublet may be the way to go if you're looking to spend less) The best thing is obviously to get a roomate, because you can split rent.
