I was waitlisted also, and was waitlisted last year, not a surprise, For those on the waitlist they usually don't start checking until late April/ Early May, and they were letting people know until early August, they went into their waitlist a bunch of times to fill the class, so there is still hope. The director is usually pretty up front about telling you what your app could have shown more of, so I recommend contacting her, that way if Fordham is your first choice you can do all you can to try and get in.

With a 174? Wow

lol and a 2.9. Trying to figure out which of those stats is the one scaring em off.

also just got an e-mail reiterating what the status checker already told me.

I will use my great predictive powers here and say you will get off the WL but without as much money as you will get at other schools that are willing to pay for that 174. A follow up why Fordham letter might help.

It seems crazy to me that of all the people on Law school network that have applied to Fordham only one has been accepted. Are they just extremely cautious, or just think higher of themselves than they really are? Someone with a 3.5 and a 170 and an acceptance to Michigan got waitlisted today, which seems a little ridiculous since their 50th percentile last year was a 3.5 and a 165. I mean they moved up one spot in the rankings since last year, not enough to raise their acceptance stats that much.

i dunno. i might try it if i thought i could coerce some money out of them but that's seems especially unlikely off the waitlist.

I didn't even know what this was until I just looked it up. You're probably right though, even though it seems like backwards thinking to me I guess it makes sense for schools to do this. Makes this whole process seem like a numbers game rather than a legitimate effort to attract and accept the best students possible. I wish it was more straightforward.

It is really frustrating to feel like you're just your numbers, but at the same time, the schools have an obligation to themselves and their students to be in the best position possible. I talked to an admissions officer at another school, and she expressed how easy it was to become cynical after hearing, year after year, students rave about how wonderful her school was and then pull their acceptance once they were accepted to a school ranked 10 spots higher on the other side of the country. It is a numbers game, in a sense, but being waitlisted isn't an outright rejection and there are still more opportunities to prove that you're more than just your numbers.

so did no one get an acceptance yet? (despite her twitter posts?)

sorry for all the rejects and WL. It's not uncommon to get $ after being accepted off of a WL. good luck to everyone

That is an excellent LSAT. You should be very proud of that score.

Anyway, high GPAs are much more common than high LSATs. In this period of declining applications, and with Fordham's continued decline in LSAT percentiles, you should be fine. Make sure you are applying to many other schools in Fordham's range, and also a bunch of reaches. I would think you would get money elsewhere, and can use that for negotiation if Fordham is your first choice.

Shit, someone was waitlisted with a 174? My 169 is feeling weak right now. Still no update though.

What's your GPA?

Also, don't put too much stock in YP or that it's just a numbers game. I know people who prove the lie to both of those

melissa91791 wrote:i agree, ppl put too much stock in numbers. i think that a lot of ppl who apply have the same, decent numbers, and i think the essay/college/maybe some softs do play a significant role.

I wouldn't go that far, but I have a classmate whose GPA and LSAT means he should have been YPed, and another who should have been auto-rejected. I could have gotten T14 but took money/location. While numbers are the best predictor of how you will be received, there aren't hard&fast rules (well, if you're 2.2x/14x, maybe not)

+1. I'm pretty sure my personal statement and work experience are the only reason for my one acceptance so far.

Basically this. I'm a reverse splitter and if they just looked at my LSAT I wouldn't have gotten into any of the T-50.

Not good, 3.1. I've got 2 years of WE, but my PS is pretty meh and I have some C&F issues which I think are going to kill me.

I've posted quite a bit on here, mostly in the LSAT forum, but I'm too clear on what "yield protect" means. Anyone care to give me the "for Dummies" explanation?
