Is first deposit for merit scholarship recipients April 1? I see it on the "Deposit Deadlines" thread but nowhere on Fordham's website/don't remember seeing it in any info I got from them... crap

I haven't been able to find anything on this April 1st deadline either. They are closed until the 2nd; kicking myself for not calling sooner. Can anyone give a verifiable answer?skittles20 wrote:Is first deposit for merit scholarship recipients April 1? Submitted an application on 3/7. Been "Complete" since 3/15. Stats: 164, 3.45 (Ivy), 3 years work experience. Hoping to hear back before Brooklyn's deposit deadline (4/15).

I have similar scores and haven't heard anything since being "Complete" on 3/12. I've been getting a bit anxious about the apparent lack of movement so it's a bit of a relief to hear you're in the same boat. Hopefully we'll here this week. Would it be a bad idea to mention that I've been admitted to similarly ranked schools (i.e. BC Law, UIUC) in a letter of continued interest since I've been wait listed?

Its a bad idea. Your goal on a WL is to convince the Adcomms you would attend if admitted. Your other acceptances are detrimental to that arguement.PerezNY wrote:Would it be a bad idea to mention that I've been admitted to similarly ranked schools (i.e. BC Law, UIUC) in a letter of continued interest since I've been wait listed?

Thanks for the advice, but what if you're telling the committee that you'll undoubtedly attend and forfeit a seat at a higher ranked school?* I'm sure they would take that language with a grain of salt, but they probably take all info with a grain of salt. My logic behind the thought is that they would be taking admits from a similar, or potentially stronger, applicant pool at a rival school. Seems almost like insider trading, lol. Ahhh, I really want IN, I have personal reasons for wanting to stay in NYC and leaving would really throw a wrench into things.drive4showLSAT4dough wrote:Its a bad idea. Bolded makes for a way more compelling argument than rankings. It actually makes me cringe when people reference them like that as they are largely irrelevant. Just because they rank higher, it doesn't mean they are seen as competition. WUSTL, Alabama, and Indiana are also ranked higher, Fordham knows you shouldn't select those schools just because they rank higher. You'd have a really tough time finding jobs outside of those regions if you attended those schools.PerezNY wrote:Thanks for the advice, but what if you're telling the committee that you'll undoubtedly attend and forfeit a seat at a higher ranked school?* I'm sure they would take that language with a grain of salt, but they probably take all info with a grain of salt. Re: Fordham c/o 2016/17 (2012-2013 Cycle)
I have been admitted to much higher ranked schools: GW, UMN, WUSTL, BC, and BU... But I'm still mostly leaning toward Fordham because of its employment prospects in NYC. I'm trying to figure out if this is really the right move.
Of all these NYC is the only city where I have ties, went there for UG and worked, COL would be cheap and I got an ok scholarship, and where I'd likely want to spend a significant amount of my life. I posted in the choosing a law school forum but was interested in some more opinions! Fordham is the clear winner here despite higher ranked schools throwing money my way? My gut is telling me that. Being above median will make it likely for a decent job, right? It's a gamble still but probably worth talking over the others. Any one have more info?
SO! Anyone else going to ASD on the 6th? I'll be flying out from CA for it. If anyone wants to say hey I'd be interested in meeting up.

If you're not interested in public interest, it sounds like Fordham is your best option.UselessKnowledge wrote:I have been admitted to much higher ranked schools: GW, UMN, WUSTL, BC, and BU... Why do you say that? I think I want to start in biglaw, but public interest/government work is of interest to me in the long run possibly.SteelPenguin wrote:If you're not interested in public interest, it sounds like Fordham is your best option.UselessKnowledge wrote:I have been admitted to much higher ranked schools: GW, UMN, WUSTL, BC, and BU... Is it possible to use a Cornell admittance as leverage? I also have some money from BU.

Hey Useless Knowledge,
I'll be at ASD this Saturday in case you want to meet up.
Congrats on your cycle looks awesome!
I got WL at GW, UMN and got in to Fordham and Catholic so far. But I applied super late. Deadline date for most.
I'm still waiting to hear back from the big ones still left Yale, UVA, and a couple of safe schools that I'm not really concerned about at this point since I got in to Fordham. I'm a vet and only applied to schools I could go with on a full ride with my Post 9/11 GI Bill.
Anyhow, that's just a bit of background info.
Good Luck on obtaining leverage with Fordham I heard they're pretty frugal on scholly.

Re: Fordham c/o 2016/17 (2012-2013 Cycle)
I only said that because I'm not sure how each school's LRAP program works for public interest. They also don't place many students in public interest each year according to LST, but that could be self-selection.UselessKnowledge wrote:Why do you say that? Re: Fordham c/o 2016/17 (2012-2013 Cycle)
I have two questions:
There's a lot of talk in the forum regarding Big Law. Does anyone have interest in public interest/government law? And are there any current grads still reading this thread with interest in public interest/government that can provide some info/feedback? I mean I want to stay in the NYC area for school but wouldn't mind moving to DC after school if the possibility opened up.
Second, is anyone attending ASD this Saturday April 6th? I think it's the last one this cycle.

I badly want to attend ASD on the 6th but I'm going out of town. That said, how important is it to attend an ASD? Do the majority of the invitees make it? I guess not because many applicants may be out-of-state and taking a weekend trip to NYC might be difficult.
And also has anyone received their official admittance package via snail mail? I'm still waiting on mine, I was admitted last Tuesday via email.

I was able to negotiate from $0 per year to $5k per year, seems like it's tough to get out of four digits per year.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
