is the L expensive? BART is what i'm used to and it's $$$$

NU gives you a "free" pass for use during the school year (not really free since you're paying them 55k/year in tuition). Otherwise it's something like $90 a month for an unlimited pass if you bought one on your own. Definitely cheaper than BART. On par with Muni, iirc.

It's not even "free." It's like $80/year.

They made it optional? I thought it wasn't optional.

I don't think it's optional, but it's not included in tuition is what I was saying.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love areas like Wicker Park, it's just not as convenient to NU. The buses in Chicago are never ever on time and get quite packed in the mornings. Some bus stops and most L stops do have heaters but its still pretty awful waiting for either. Some much of the red line an blue lines are actually underground.

I know of a couple people who live in Ukrainian Village and they like it there. The big problem with the 66 bus is that during rush hour it takes forever. You'd almost get there faster by walking.

South Loop is very much up-and-coming, so it's nice but that also means that rents are rising. There's still a healthy mix of prices. I know somebody who lives in Chinatown, but I wouldn't live there if you have a car...

Speaking of cars, I strongly recommend considering not bringing one to Chicago. I sold mine and am very happy with my decision. Public transit is very comprehensive and largely reliable. And there are tons of zipcars when you do need a car. When you factor in the savings from parking, insurance, gas, maintenance, car payment, etc. it's a lot of money you're saving.

I live in east Lakeview and love it, so I'm always encouraging people to get a place there. You can find some really good deals if you spend the time hunting around craigslist.

Ah okay. I meant tuition+fees as it really isn't any different whether they lump it into tuition or call it a fee but I get what you're saying.

Well, I'm not there quite yet. I can only do 4-5 reps with 90lb dumbbells for db bench right now. Mostly working out with 85s currently. but i wanna have that room for improvement. I think if I keep at it I should be benching the 100s by end of summer. DBs are harder than barbell, but if u think about it, for benchpress, 200 isn't really that high.

U aware brah?

Haha, I will most likely be attending NU in the fall. Literally just got back from the gym where I did DB bench with 100s 3x12 (elbow problems so I can't lift heavy right now). Good to see there are some more bros headed to NU. I'm sure we'll find somewhere to lift!

Hell yeah it should. Hey, we could even all live together and split bulk protein powder. truenutrition has whey for $6/lb if u buy over 15lbs. (remember the good ol days when $5/lb was standard?)

You'll all love it. The weather leaves a lot to be desired but the summers are largely unbeatable. It's like euphoria.

lolno at the bolded.

Maybe if you grew up in the south, Chicago summers are better in comparison. Coming from the west coast, though, they're pretty ghastly. The temps are ok (warm-hot) but the humidity is pretty gross.

I applied in early November, complete since mid-January.

BigZuck are you in my boat too or just despondent at no $$ yet?

Went complete mid-Jan and held since end of Feb. I would think people who are still waiting (not held) have a better chance of getting in than the held peeps. Hope you get some good news soon!

I applied mid-January.
Complete 2/25 after interviewing, and again 3/13.
No word since then.
Any idea when I will hear??

+1

Haha I meant ambiance and the joy shared by everyone that is defrosting, not weather. There is a reason I want to return to the west.

summers in Chicago are humid, but less than say, DC. More importantly, the lakefront is generally much cooler than the western 'burbs.
