Just had my OCI. Pretty straightforward. Why law, why NU, leadership, service, etc. they also asked about significant projects and how I would deal with the adversarial nature of being a lawyer. All in all easygoing.

"OCI" is an entirely different beast...just call it your interview or you might confuse people. (And by people, I mean me.)

Sorry. Thought we could make some inferences, given the context.

No worries. I'm probably the only one confused. No one's going to yell at you. :P

I've got my interview this Thurs at 2:45 and I'm planning on hitting up the guided tour at noon. Questions for you current students out there: Are there any late afternoon classes I can sit in on after the interview? If so, which one(s) do you recommend? (I can't go to a class before the tour because my flight doesn't get in to Chicago until 10am). Also, where the hell should I go for dinner since there are no less than a bazillion options there?!! Thanks!

ETA: Found the class schedule list on NU's website. I didn't see any standard first year courses (please correct me if I'm wrong) in the block that starts at 4pm. Would you recommend sitting in on one, anway? Crime and Criminology sounds interesting, at least from the title.

Thursdays and Fridays are different for 1Ls...I think we all have one doctrinal class at 10:25 and then CLR either before or after. You're not allowed to sit in on CLR (and we're doing research right now anyway so it would be entirely pointless.) You'll need to ask in the admissions office about sitting in on an upperclassmen class. (Crime & Criminology would definitely be a 2L/3L class.)

Honestly, I think sitting in on a 1L class would be marginally more useful (since 1L classes are required and since 1L grades are by FAR the most important). But if you can only get to a 2L/3L class, might as well pick something that sounds interesting (AFTER checking with admissions).

Thanks! I figured it was an upper level class. Oh well, if they say don't bother, that frees up more time in town. My flight back out doesn't leave til early the next morning and I've never been to Chicago. Appreciate any recommendations from anyone on how to spend an afternoon and evening, particularly for food :D

Had my alumni interview earlier this month. Casual, but we ended up talking for like an hour and fifteen minutes, which is WAY longer than I thought it would last.

Questions:
-basic who are you, why law school
-what is the most significant project you have worked on at your current job
-specific questions about my resume

My interviewer seemed to be really in to telling me about law school and the legal profession, so make sure to come to the interview with specific questions you can ask them about Northwestern and the interveiwer's legal profession.

Also, make sure you e-mail your resume to the interviewer beforehand. I totally forgot until like two days before the interview, but thankfully remembered at the last minute. It made my interview process much better especially because I did not send my application in before the interview.

I just got the email too. Tempted to see if they'd refund the hundred bucks I dropped. I feel that may be in poor taste though.

I just had my interview today. Maybe it varies from person to person, but mine was very casual and it went really well.

The interviewer was very nice and eager to tell me a lot of things about Northwestern. Most of it was me asking questions about things that I am interested in (both about the school itself, how their clinics work, the job fairs, etc., and about things such as housing). And she was very helpful and told me a lot of things that made me like Northwestern even more. For instance, she didn't feel like she was in a cut-throat environment, and she said students liked working together and being friendly, which I think is not that case at every law school.

If you requested an interview, I think you should just take advantage of it, and be prepared to ask about things you are genuinely interested to learn about. I personally found it very helpful and am glad I got the chance to speak with someone who went through the same process and was happy to tell me everything I needed to know.

Regarding the ED cert: is that something you sent with your app online, or did you send it to the admissions office separately?

It is apparently something you need to send in separately. I didn't realize till i looked at my status checker a week after applying and was still incomplete. I just printed it off, signed it, scanned it back and e-mailed it.

Here's a link to it. ED Certification
