What is the significance, if any, of participating in an on-campus interview for hold applicants?

Any other admitted students have current students email them? I feel mine has been disingenuous to say the least. Part of the reasons she recommended NU was because of the smaller class sizes compared to UG, "there would be 500 people in class at my UG and only 12 at Northwestern."
She also emphasized that NU has OCI's like it was a special thing. I don't know, it just felt weird that she was mentioning things true for literally every school as reasons I should choose NU.

The biggest classes here are a 1L section (around 60-65 people), and electives are frequently 10/20/30 people. A big undergrad lecture could very well be in the hundreds, especially things like freshman science. She's talking about actual classes, not the whole 1L year. Obviously that's probably true to varying degrees at all law schools vs. undergrads. But perhaps she was considering a huge school like GULC.Micdiddy wrote:Any other admitted students have current students email them? I feel mine has been disingenuous to say the least. If she was comparing NU's OCI to a lower-ranked school, they are different, in that a lot more employers come to the top schools, and people actually get hired.
P.S. We're not pressured or required (or rewarded in any way) to write those emails, btw. It's volunteer, and I would expect whatever the writer says to be reasonably sincere. That's not to say that it's necessarily at all useful to you in making a decision, but calling her disingenuous is kind of rude.

The email I got didn't go into any real details about why he chose NU. Just said he was glad he chose it and if I had any questions to reach out to him.

I wasn't, actually. I signed up to write some when they asked for volunteers but haven't been contacted. Maybe I don't match up well with anyone.mrizza wrote:twist: rink was the one who emailed yourinkrat19 wrote:The biggest classes here are a 1L section (around 60-65 people), and electives are frequently 10/20/30 people. I didn't mean to be rude, and I suppose she could have said everything very sincerely, but perhaps it's more of a naivete or simply not knowing what else to say. Certainly, everything she likes about NU could very well be 100% sincere, I just found it weird and a bit off-putting that they happened to be the exact same things I expect to find from every single school I applied to.rinkrat19 wrote:The biggest classes here are a 1L section (around 60-65 people), and electives are frequently 10/20/30 people. I still think it's weird comparing a law school class to a UG mega-class and thinking that's a bonus somehow of NU (she didn't compare it to GULC or any other law school), but whatever, I'll take all the information I can.

As someone who sent a chunk of those- definitely ask your questions! Most of us love to talk northwestern. Also, feel free to ask in the "3Ls answering questions" thread- which is actually populated by a big mix of 1-3Ls with a range of experiences.oaken wrote:completely forgot i was emailed by a current student. i seem to have a lot of questions, i should actually take advantage of that contact
Edit: having read upthread, a few more thoughts. I definitely second what rink said- we're not forced or rewarded for writing those, so take it as sincere! It's sometimes hard to explain generally why we love it here, but you'll likely get more specific answers if you write back. Otherwise, of course, your friendly TLS crew are around to help! I'm always happy to talk to 0Ls, mostly because I have a huge and unwavering love for this place.

Heard about this on the news during my lunch break. Here's the article from the trib.

I can't believe that NU doesn't send this type of information to applicants before taking it to the media.

It's bad for those of us on hold who want a seat, yes.

+1 This seems like excellent news for those admitted! Smaller class sizes, smaller tuition increases, and more financial aid. That's quite the hat trick!teiswei wrote:You're posing it as a bad thing?Brian_music wrote:Heard about this on the news during my lunch break. Here's the article from the trib.

Are people on hold generally submitting both the optional essays?

Fair enough. I'll do them both, plus a LOCI, plus an update about an award at work. NU, please be impressed!rinkrat19 wrote:Yes. NU likes you to jump through all the hoops.VeeD101 wrote:Are people on hold generally submitting both the optional essays?
