Did anyone get A/R/W over the weekend? It seems like we haven't heard anything since early last week...
Just sent in a deposit to hold my scholarship at another school, but not hearing from UCLA is killing me. :(

So in lieu of a status checker, would calling admissions to check on the status of my App be a serious faux pas?

Yes.

What are you going to say?
"I'm calling to check the status of my application."
"We have not rejected or accepted you yet, which is why you haven't heard either way."
"Oh. Okay."
"...."

Pretty much, except perhaps they'd be able to tell me if I'm close to a decision or weeks away. Their last Open House is this weekend, and if they want me to be there I have to know within a day or two so I can actually book a flight and accommodations.

Better schools have gotten back to me, with $$$, in much shorter time. I really want to keep UCLA on the table, but they are making it pretty damn hard for me to do so.

They wouldn't be able to tell you that and you know it. If they knew when the decision would be, they would have already made it and told you.

Don't count on ASW, and go to a better school if you're in with cash!

They almost surely would know where in the process I am; it's the difference between being merely 'complete' or thrice under review at any normal school with a status checker. Whether they would tell me or not is a different story entirely. But I'm sure they know how close I am to a decision.

^^GHG:

The issue, I think, is that you are a late applicant with good numbers. If you really want UCLA, send 'em a quick LOCI and watch your app move to the top of the pile. At this point, AdComms are running out of slots and thus, need to be judicious -- at least until the deposit deadline passes.

good luck.

Especially given that you're already in at several good schools with $$, I say why not. I've found UCLA's admissions office to be extremely responsive, though I never contacted them in this particular context. Given your LSAT score, if you're genuinely interested in UCLA I think they would be interested in you. I agree that a quick LOCI (could just be an email to Dean Schwartz explaining your strong interest and upcoming deadlines) could be more effective than a phone call.

Just got awarded some need based aid, but I remember my original scholarship letter said smtn along the lines that the offer being made was everything I was gonna get. Any1 know if these 2 scholarships are combined or if it just reduces my merit based?

The exact wording I'm referring to from the original merit based offer Is "this award will include any need based law grant you may receive from the ucla school of law office of financial aid."

The school will not pay you in excess of your estimated cost of attendance. Certain grants and scholarships from sources other than the school can be used to exceed this cap. As far I know anyway.

The added value of the 2 awards would not meet/exceed total cost of attendance, or even total cost of tuition, if that's what your asking.

Dear TripTrip,

The need-based grant is in addition to your merit aid, so you will be able to keep both. Have you already received your ePAL from our Financial Aid Office? We hope to see you here in the fall!

Best Regards,

Talin Broosan
Director of Admissions

She then promptly called me to clarify, and said a lot of other students had been asking the same thing.

For reference, I have a full tuition merit scholarship and was given a $10k/yr need-based grant, so the $10k is a COL stipend.

Trip is it actually full tuition or is it 150k?

Dude, that's awesome. Congratulations!!

P.S. the people who work in the admissions office are so nice. People should be way less hesitant to send them emails. If you want something, just ask! Good luck to everyone else in getting money/admitted!

So true. I've talked to 8 students (all before the ASD event). They have all been so helpful.
