So I will be moving to LA with my girlfriend. I am exploring on campus housing options. Does anyone know if any of these are even feasible because my girlfriend will be living with me? Or should I start looking elsewhere.
The 2 bedroom and townhouse at Weyburn look nice, but we don't want a roommate and definitely not paying 2200+ rent for us 2. So, would our only on campus option (because not married, no kids, etc.) be a studio at Weyburn/Hilgard?

requested a review, laid out my other options. took about a week. I was hoping for 105. that would have made USC - UCLA equal tuition. I didn't have much sholly at higher ranked schools. I know some who had schollies from Penn, Duke, Mich. and got it up to the 105. My best current schollies were at GW, Fordham and USC. GULC hasn't probably will not give me anything. but expecting something from Cornell. FOr me USC and UCLA are almost a toss-up. they both have their strong points. If my prayers are answered at Stanford or Columbia....all bets are off!!

I have no direct advice (I qualify for family housing), but just wanted to say that they were super helpful via email and phone. I would just give them a call and ask what options are for non-married students with SOs. Alternatively, there are quite a few current students in the accepted students FB group, they may be more responsive there than on here. :)

I don't know for sure either but almost positive you won't qualify for any on campus housing. You would need to be married and have some sort of documentation I think. Although I'm sure there's some sort of concession for life partner type situations but I have no idea what that process would look like. I'm just guessing that a boyfriend/girlfriend situation wouldn't be enough for them.

I suggest finding a place in the Culver City area and just busing on up to campus. Would probably be cheaper too.

As for housing, it is in the high rent district. The thing i didn't like about UCLA was the public trans didn't seem easy to navigate to UCLA esp. if you lived north of campus.

If you "live" north of campus (Bel Air), you have a driver for your Bentley. Don't need no stinkin' public transportation.

If by north of campus u mean the SF Valley (Sherman Oaks, Encino, Studio City, Van Nuys, etc) u have easy access to UCLA via the 761 Rapid bus line. It travels down Sepulveda Blvd parallel to the 405 freeway and makes stops on the north, east (nearest to the law school) and south ends of campus. You'll find housing far cheaper in the valley than West LA.

Source: did the public trans commute from Sherman Oaks to Westwood for 2 years.

The whole problem with this is you have to live in the valley. Ewww, yucky!

But yeah, might be an ok option for the particularly debt averse.

Still waiting on UCLA....

They were one of the very first schools I applied to. I put in Duke, Michigan, Georgetown, Virginia, Vanderbilt, GW, UT and USC days or weeks later and have heard back from all of them. Makes me wonder what's going on over there.

Don't feel too bad, I'm still waiting on Vandy and some T14s. It feels like my app cycle was super stacked (thankfully all great) and then some serious silence.

Does anyone know anything about UCLA's Epstein Program in PI and Policy? I've seen this: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=104536, but it's pretty much people waiting for acceptances. I've seen virtually nothing else on TLS.

The UCLA website seemed pretty vague; mainly mentioning 4 courses participants take (like PI problem solving).

The UCLA website seemed pretty vague; mainly mentioning 4 courses participants take (like PI problem solving).

There was a whole handout on the program in the ASW materials they handed out, so I just pulled that out. There are the curricular components you alluded to -- Epstein participants take their first year lawyering skills course in a section that is only composed of Epstein students, rather than with their normal sections. There's also a year-long 1L workshop (no credit) that Epstein students take together and a second year problem solving requirement that can be fulfilled through designated seminars. During 2L and 3L Epstein students are also required to enroll in one course from each of 6 additional categories (not going to type them all out here...). There are also extracurriculars like speakers, policy projects, and mentoring programs (w/ faculty, older participants, and program alumni)

At the ASW I met at least one admit who had already gotten into the program a few months ago, but I was told another round of Epstein admissions would be coming later. FWIW this handout definitely says that "the overwhelming majority have post-undergrad experience in the public interest arena" and people I spoke with at ASW all indicated that the Epstein folks tend to be a slightly older crowd b/c work experience is so important in admissions. This handout also says they are trying to admit those "most likely to achieve academic success" so I would assume GPA and LSAT may at least get some sway.

Most Epstein admits don't get any $ tied to the Epstein program, except two who get full Stache scholarships. If you don't get in as a 0L, you can apply to transfer in for your 2L year.

Hope that helps :)

That helps, thanks risa for taking the time to post it. I've been wondering a lot about what it actually is, and also about what kind of weight it might actually carry for employment of the PI minded. Since you answered the first, I'll probably call OCS and try figure out about the second.

I got an invite by email 2 days after I was accepted. I'm sure you can just request to join though.

I'm not admitted so I don't think I can join. It's probably invitation only.
