LOL at taking things out of context. The initially comment about struggling to keep up was regarding scholarship money, which is absolutely true.

megagnarley wrote:Make no mistake USC is climbing. I was just speaking with a big entertainment attorney (yes, they exist) yesterday who mentioned the ascension of USC and how he feels they are now, in some respects, outpacing UCLA.

So that's what you meant here?

He/She is probably a USC student who got rejected from UCLA

Incorrect.

But I was never even trying to stir the pot. UCLA is a great school. Simply stating that:

1) USC is throwing around more money this year than UCLA

and

2) USC, in the eyes of employers, is on the rise.

Easy.

He's on this list http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/ ... ale-349784. $100 bucks if you can pick him out.

And I bet you ten times that amount of money he knows a shit ton more about LA firm hiring practices than you do.

You think employers bother 'predicting' which schools are 'on the rise'? Like jobless people at TLS?

You're right. You did not make that claim. The claim you did make is of a thoroughly baseless nature that states, in effect: a large contingent of LA's premiere attorneys know nothing about law school and, furthermore, do not care about these schools.

That is pure stupidity that is utterly unsubstantiated, and would be unconscionable to any one whose had any substantive interaction in the field.

Not even sure why I'm crediting that kind of comment by responding.

Someones bitter their initial argument got shredded.

I'll stop hijacking the thread, but PM me if you'd like to have a civilized conversation about it.

However, on the admitted students site it says the admit packet contents include: Welcome Letter, Contact Information, Information for Welcome Receptions, Websites to Visit, and a 2011-2012 Academic Calendar. I only received one of those (Welcome letter) and am unable to access the other material from the admitted students section. Am I an outlier or are others experiencing this?!

I received the same as you. Info on welcome receptions came by email.

Thank you! I was worrying my acceptance was illegitimate... haha

I find it interesting that a UCLA grad says UCLA law is better and a USC grad says USC law is better :)

I really have no dog in this fight because I went to neither for undergrad but from what I can see USC pretty consistently slightly out paces UCLA in big law (which is important to me) and as of now has a slightly better employment score with a larger percentage of the class reporting salaries and a smaller percentage being hired by the school for sham jobs. People claim UCLA kids opt into public service eschewing big law but I question that considering their probable massive debt load and the school's weak LRAP (though I don't know much about LRAP so I could be wrong in reading theirs as weak). Both schools are stoopid expensive but at least this cycle USC is making it less so.

That's just looking at things as they stand right now. Maybe UCLA will stop jacking up tuition and be more generous with aid and then make it a tougher choice between the two. But for me at least the choice is easy. Still, UCLA is beloved because it has more lay prestige and more of a "good guy" factor (no spoiled children or cheating football team there!) so you have a bunch of kids EDing and lining up to pay sticker at their dream school.

Anyway not really the forum for this (though I do think UCLA vs USC is an important question for a lot of us and I think it should be discussed but the mods don't like it here).

Congrats new admits! Also if anyone else has any success negotiating I would like to hear it because while I am leaning toward USC over UCLA right now if I could get UCLA to up their offer I would be interested in attending.

Do you guys have any information on how UCLA fares on getting its students top judicial clerkships compared to other schools in the top 20?

Would it be weird/boomerish of me to print out and mail in the wait list form? I hate faxing things.

dunno about those, but fellow academics still prefer Southern Branch (and the difference likely accounts for the fact that UCLA is higher ranked by a slot or two).

UCLA PA = 4.0

USC = 3.7

I think faxing would make you more boomerish.

I just have a secretary do it so I can maintain my non-boomer status.

Anyone know UCLA's reputation re: scholarship negotiations? I don't anticipate being eligible for any need-based scholarships, but should I still submit the "need access" form before negotiating for scholarships?
