Buffalo c/o 2016 applicants

Post by kylemba » Mon Aug 27, 2012 12:02 pm

Thought I'd start this thread since the c/o 2015 thread had some good info.

UB will be set up to receive applications after September 1st but the application is already available on the LSAC.
Introducing the SUNY Buffalo Law School's Class of 2015*. From a national application pool of 1445, this talented group attended some of the best undergraduate schools in the country. We look forward to their upcoming contributions to the law school.

Median LSAT: 156
25th – 75th percentile: 152 - 158
Median GPA: 3.51
25th-75th percentile: 3.19 - 3.67
Applications Received: 1445
Entering Class: 205
Percentage of Applicants Admitted: 44%
Males: 51%
Females: 49%
Age Range: 20 - 43
Average Age: 24
Age 25+: 26%
Advanced Degrees: 8%
Ethnic Diversity: 18%
Out of State Population: 10.24% (includes international)

Resident Tuition (FT): $19,112
Non-Resident Tuition (FT): $30,772

The Admissions Process

At UB Law, the admission process is selective and is based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria. In addition to your LSAT score and your undergraduate grade point average (GPA), the admissions committee considers other non-numerical factors in reaching decisions.

These factors include:

Achievements or activities that indicate a high level probability of scholastic excellence and intellectual contributions while in law school
Achievements or activities emanating from work, life experience, or community service that indicate a potential for contributing to the enrichment of the law school
Special factors in your background that may have impeded your educational opportunities, including discrimination based on race, creed, gender, disability, or national origin: and special economic or social impediments
Anyone else applying please share your info and how your application packet is going!

I'm from Rochester and have a BBA in finance and economics as well as my MBA.
LSAC GPA 3.08 UGPA 3.15. Also started my own non profit in undergrad and have worked full-time in corporate marketing this summer. Scoring in the 155 range and hoping for a 160+ in December!

Good thread!

My last LSAT score was 153, and my current GPA is 3.76. My only choice for law school is UB.

Thanks for hopping on the tread! UB is a great choice IMHO. I attended the open house this morning at the school and was completely blown away.

I also have to agree that a retake might be beneficial to you. Your GPA is great for UB and with a nice LSAT score you could get a decent scholarship.

Hi Kyle, I'm hopping on this thread bc I lived in central NY for a long time and was considering law schools like Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, etc.

I really think you should retake the LSAT. Of the 245 graduates form Buffalo last year, only 30 of them are employed in a firm with more than 10 attorneys. Only 51% of their graduates are employed in full time JD required positions. Obviously that's not 0 percent, but a 50-50 chance of being unemployed with lots of debt is something to take into consideration.

--LinkRemoved--

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide!

Thank you for your advice! I've checked out Buffalo on law school transparency and the employment prospects are not the greatest however, Buffalo is favored by employers over the other upstate ny schools if you chose to stay in the area.

if you want to remain in new york state, and you are a new york state resident- buffalo sint that bad of a choice. it has a good reputation in teh area, and with a tution cost of 20k a year, its not that expensive ( out of state is 34K for tuition- that is expensive). However, buffalo doesnt ahve a lot of scholarship money to throw around, and with a 153, your chances of acceptance aren't the greatest. the current incoming class is aproximately 202 students, which isnt terribly large or small. if you have further questions, PM me

I hope this does not violate any un-written rules but:

I attended open house on September 15 and received and application fee waiver for doing so.
There is another open house on October 20 so if you're in upstate it might be worth checking out if you're even just thinking about applying!

Current UB Law student here. I love the school and it's the best value for the money in my opinion. It's also a fairly laid back atmosphere for a law school if that is something you are looking for. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them if I can!

Did everyone else receive a confirmation e-mail from Buffalo with a status checker link? I never got anything from the school, just LSAC's confirmation, and on LSAC it does say that my application is LSAC complete or whatever. This is making me nervous now haha. I checked both my e-mail accounts including the spam folders and I'm not seeing anything!

Also, I don't believe I ever received a status checker email from Buffalo. Just an admission folder sent through snail mail.
