Maybe I am paranoid, but I worry that this is somehow in lieu of a scholarship offer. Did any of you scholarship recipients receive this letter as well? If so, did it come first, followed by the offer? Or were they together?

Best wishes,

This is the scoop I hear from UT: IF you have at least a 168 and a GPA over 3.65ish, you will be eligible about $12K in merit scholarship. The scale goes up from there .. mostly based on LSAT.
So, based on your numbers, you can sortof guess where you will fall.

Thanks, curious. I am a splitter, so there's no telling, I guess. I should probably just be thankful to be admitted.

That's what they want you to think. Give it some time, but don't make any decisions until you've at least requested a scholarship. They aren't going to rescind your offer because you asked. FWIW, 171, 3.72, $120,000.

Thanks for the encouragement. Turns out I got the offer a couple of days after giving up hope. Short of a full ride, but UT is going to be hard to beat at this point![/quote]

With that LSAT score you could probably get even more aid. I imagine you will probably get a big offer from Virginia you could use as leverage.

Man just by looking at 6th St on Google Maps I can tell that place must go off at night.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=+305+W.+6 ... C+TX+78701

Do you local Texans go that are frequently, or is it more of a touristy area?

I had high hopes at the beginning of the cycle, but Duke, Michigan, and Virginia have all been silent since October. No bad news, but I am not holding out much hope at this point...

That is a little strange. Your GPA is kind of low, but nowhere near enough to offset that great LSAT score. Any C & F issues?

No. I am very much non-traditional though (two M.A.'s). I wonder if they just don't know what to make of me. :-/

6th street is definitely a huge hangout for UT students, spent alot of time there as an undergrad. Theres actually only a few bars right around campus.

Nice are there any other areas in Texas that are huge hangouts for students?

As far as near campus, both crown & anchor and posse east are very popular walking distance from the law school along with Cain & Abels in West Campus. Theres soooo much to do in Austin, tons of amazing live music everywhere, South Congress has alot of great restaurants and an unique Austin vibe. Alot of restaurants that are on Lake Austin are super popular too. I could go on and on haha

The food in Austin is pretty great too, and cheap! Love those food trucks!

i second the food trucks. austin is also ridiculously dog friendly. i asked if my dog could go kayaking or canoeing and the response was: if she'll sit on it or swim next to you, we don't care. also at some places waiters will bring out dog treats and water bowls when you're out sittin on the porch.

Posts from Dean Ingram on the admits' facebook page today re: financial aid and scholarships:

Scholarship is distinct from financial aid. Admitted students receive merit notification only if they are awarded scholarship usually within two weeks of admission. We do not notify you if you do not qualify for merit scholarslhip. Pure merit awards start at 168/3.6. We also initiate discretionary review for admitted students who have the LSAT score but fall just below the GPA. Once we've awarded all students eligible under our pure merit program we will review students for discretionary awards. Our matching program is the primary means students can initiate discretionary scholarship review.

We're getting inquiries about matching scholarships so I wanted to share my thoughts about the program. From my prior experience, students are too enamored with the dollar amount of X law school's scholarship and don't focus on the bottom line. What will I, as a student, have to actually pay to attend X school versus Texas. Candidly, I am not interested in helping anyone push another law school's scholarship higher. I'm interested in making it easier for future Longhorns. Which is why I troll our Facebook site as one factor to consider when I get matching requests. We have finite scholarship available and I must distribute it responsibly, which is why we limit matching requests to one time. FYI...you're already a step ahead by being on this site. :-) We will begin reviewing matching requests on February 27th. Details about the Matching program can be found at http://www.utexas.edu/law/finaid/schola ... match.html

Wow thanks for this. I wonder if I will have to wait a bit longer than the two weeks because I have a 168 3.55. I really hope I get something. Texas would be great to attend.

Did anyone else get an email about an admitted students reception for those in the Dallas area? My primary concern is attire. I assume suit?

I was told by a lawyer friend in my office to go in business professional attire - i.e. suits, solid colored top, pantyhose for a girl, and no elbows showing...

As a non-student living in Austin I think 6th street is pretty lame (east 6th is ok) but you will never want for things to do/eat out of a truck.

I like Rainey street, South Austin (in general), and finding specific bars and clubs downtown. North-Central Austin has a lot of really cool stuff. basically the whole city is amazing.

+1. As far as bars go, there are way better options than 6th street (with the exception of east 6th like romanticegotist said). My favorite places were all on the east side and in the rainey street area. There are so many different places to try each with different vibes; you'll never be able to experience the entire ciity in only 3 years.
