If I decide to apply for Early Decision Admission, will this increase my chances of being admitted?

Applicants who decide to apply for Early Decision Admission will not have a greater probability of being admitted nor will applicants who want to apply under Regular Decision Admission be at a disadvantage in the admissions process. The same standards and criteria will be used to evaluate all applicants, whether the application is filed Early or under Regular Decision Admissions. The advantage to those applying Early Decision is the possibility of receiving a final decision much earlier in the process. By holding a portion of the Early Decision applicants for review with the pool of Regular Decision applicants, we ensure that neither group is advantaged or disadvantaged.

You can apply ED at other schools, they don't care. Keep in mind that they aren't particularly splitter friendly though. Applying ED won't change that.

The UT website lists the total COA at $49,574 (resident) and $65,656 (nonresident) with $10,946 for room and board, $1,242 for travel, and $3,054 for miscellaneous. I noticed this doesn't include health insurance.

How realistic do you think the budget is for 1L students? Do you think many students took out less than the total COA?

Room and Board seems pretty high to me unless you're sold on living on campus. Off campus rent isn't bad unless you're set on living in an over priced complex.

Does anyone (Shifty?) know if UT does merit waivers from CRS searches and if so when those have historically been sent? Their need based waiver process is a PITA and I'd love to send this application off tomorrow if I can but will wait if I might possibly get a waiver.

Shadowofjazz's google spreadsheet indicates they have unsolicited only merit waivers that have not yet been sent out.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Shadowofjazz's work . I guess I was more asking if anyone knew when they had gone out in the past because I'm at work right and can't do real intensive research. I'll do some more digging.

Applying to Texas was one of my most annoying applications. I have a LSAC fee waiver, which apparently doesn't mean anything to Texas cause you got to fill out this other form and submit paper and blah blah blah to get a need based waiver. So I do that, get all my ducks in a row, fill out a paper app to boot and mail it all in together around 9/5. About a week later, I get an e-mail offering me a merit fee waiver through the online application. ::FACEPALM:: Then I get a letter in the mail saying I didn't sign the last page of the application (my bad, really), but now everything is in, but it's not even LSAC complete yet! And if I had waited a week, it would be just like all my other applications.

FML.

BTW, 172 LSAT/3.93 GPA, in case anyone wants to know.

Looks like they were sent out around this time last year. I'd wait a week just in case. I don't think waiting will hurt your chances at ALL at this point, and the fee IS $70.

My parents have been subsidizing various expenses like insurance and cell phone, but then again, I am stanky bad at budgeting. It's definitely workable.

I'm a 3L and I didn't think the law school had on campus housing. Are you talking about the campus apartments, which are like 1-2 miles away from campus, or something different?

Also, rent is pretty pricey for anything close to the law school, especially for single bedrooms. You can save a lot of money by having a roommate.

Hi everyone. 1L here.

As I'm only 3 weeks in, I can't really give advice as far as how to succeed, what exams are like, etc. Personally, I'm still trying to find my footing when it comes to creating an effective-yet-manageable study plan.

However, I can give insight to the admissions process. I was a pretty hefty splitter who was wait-listed and than accepted a few weeks later. Feel free to PM me or ask here if you have any questions.

I also got into several higher ranked schools and chose Texas for financial reasons/regional preference. Once the spring rolls around, if you want help with the scholarship matching process, please let me know. (Although it's pretty straight forward. The key is to negotiate with your other schools early so you can submit the best offers possible to UT).

This is true. They aren't swanky and are kind of old, but they're clean and livable. You can get a 1 bedroom for $525, which is pretty cheap because it includes all bills (water, wastewater, tv, internet, trash, gas) EXCEPT electricity. So you'd end up at like $600 total for all of your residential bills, which is pretty good. It is SUPER cheap if you have a roommate - you can get a 2 bedroom for something like $650 total, all bills except electricity still included.
