Generally, an applicant must reside and establish a domicile in the state of Texas for a period of one year prior to enrolling as a student.

You are a Virginia resident for tuition purposes, not a Texas resident. You do not reside in Texas.
Take a look at the Texas Core Residency Questionnaire - it has a flowchart in it with a BUNCH of questions that go way beyond just simply "where do you vote and pay taxes", or "where are you currently living"? Unfortunately, the flowchart doesn't terminate in a nice clear "YES/NO" decision, so you just have to fill out the relevant sections, send it in and see what they decide.
No harm in filling out the form. Let UT tell you you're not a resident, not my man Big Zuck.

A question was asked, I answered it, then I quoted the UT website to confirm what I said. By all means fill it out, maybe you will fit one of their exceptions.

Scared to ask this question, but what is an LOCI?
Don't be scared!

It stands for letter of continued interest.

Basically, you send a letter saying:

Paragraph 1: you still are very interested in the school, it remains your top choice after being held.
Paragraph 2: Why you love the school
Paragraph 3: Some update to your application/resume. If you're still in undergrad and your grades went up for this semester, tell them that (and be sure to send an upgraded transcript). If you're out of undergrad and you're working, tell them about a new accomplishment from work or some new volunteer activity you're doing.
Paragraph 4: reiterate your love for school. If you would withdraw everywhere else if you got accepted, tell them that. (This was the case for me).

I sent one after being held and another after being waitlisted. (For the record, I do not think they're why I got in off of the waitlist. I'm pretty sure I got in because they had an LSAT median problem and needed splitters).
This is very helpful; thank you for taking the time to explain this. I will definitely begin the process of writing one!

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound bullheaded. At first, I didn't realize that your reply was a quote from the UT site - it sounded like you were asking me about the process, and then talking about how it's generally done.

Thanks for the advice - I appreciate it.

This is because the school has a legal obligation to ensure the class is comprised of at least 65% Texas residents.

From Texas' TLS Profile:
Non-residents would be wise to submit their applications as early as possible, as the school cannot legally matriculate more than 35% non-resident students.
Does the school have some leeway as to who they consider "Texas residents" for the purposes of admission? Looking at their residency application form, it appears that even though I'm a Virginia resident for income tax purposes, I *might* qualify as a Texas resident for admissions because 1) I Graduated high school in Texas, 2) I Lived in Texas for the three years prior to HS graduation, and 3) I Have Texas listed as my "home of record" on my military paperwork. The flowchart on the residency form didn't lead directly to "yes, you're a resident for admissions purposes", but it definitely sounded like a possibility.

Since I'd be attending under the GI Bill, in-state tuition would automatically be granted, but I suspect that's a different issue than the 65%/35% split for admissions purposes.
By all means contact ut admission or fin aid or registrar office. Ut is pretty military friendly, so I think u got a good chance they c u as a Texan.

Reading back through this thread, it seems most people got their scholarship info ~2 weeks after they were admitted. I was admitted on the 10th. 10+14=24=Christmas Eve.

Reaaaaaaally hoping I receive it before Christmas.

Don't lose hope. And while I don't want to instill false hope in you, I don't think UT can afford to turn away instate semi-splitters in trying to maintain or increase their LSAT numbers. If you're still interested in UT, consider sending a short LOCI after you find out your fall grades. I know being held is significantly different than WL, but once your fall grades all come in, it could make for an easy update + I'm still very interested letter. (This advice goes out to anyone who was held reading this.)

checking in. 168/3.55 Florida Resident. Currently in a masters program and interning for the Democratic Party.
Judging from LSN..UT is one of the highest schools I have a chance of getting into with scholarship money.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi! So I've applied to UT early decision and was under review since mid-Nov. I haven't received a call from them (although I am abroad and cannot receive calls/do not have access to voice mail, so they might have tried to call me, I've got to way of checking). My status still says "Your JD application was processed on November 16, 2012 and is currently being considered for Regular Decision".
I've received yesterday two emails from one of their admissions staff about a Facebook group for admits. But no formal email about my acceptance, or no status change. o_0

Is this weird? Maybe I've got the email by mistake?

Shifty! I remember you from the June LSAT thread.

I ended up getting in off the wait list after the June LSAT and I'm rooming with 1Ls with similarly split stats as you. I'm sure if the rest of your app is solid you should have a great chance at getting in. If I were you, and you are set on UT, I'd call Monica Ingram (if she's still in charge of admissions) and let her know what's up. A call after sending a LOCI seemed to go a long way last year as far as admissions went.

Does anyone think there might be a chance I could ask them for an expedited decision on my application? I am trying to decide whether I want to start Baylor in the Spring, and that's contingent on UT's decision. I will probably phone them this week, but I thought I should ask to prevent any embarrassment on my part.

This is a bit outdated but I just finally joined the admitted students' facebook page and see there's a 12/19 post from Dean Ingram:
We have completed all Early Decision admission applications with few exceptions. Thank you for applying early. It really does lay the foundation for the remainder of your cycle. If you have friends who've applied for regular decision admission, we will start releasing admit offers this week!
Hopefully that's of interest to someone out there!
